First off, the things you do know: Niagara Falls is beautiful, as is Niagara-on-the-Lake. The abundance of wineries, restaurants and things to see makes it one of the best quick getaways from our always bustling city. But do you know everything Niagara has to offer? On a recent trip to Ontario’s take on Napa, we discovered some cool services and places that we just had to share.
Pour Niagara
Busy? We get it. Getting to the LCBO can also be time consuming and stressful. Pour Niagara – an awesome service that allows you to shop online for artisan wine and craft beer from the Niagara Region – delivers your chosen wine straight to your door. To add to the convenience, you have the ability to mix and match your order from many of the Niagara wineries and breweries and, best of all, none are available at the LCBO. There’s no membership either – it’s a service available to anyone and everyone. We can’t think of a better way to enjoy a chilled glass of vino after a long day at work.
Your Designated Driver
Visiting wineries is a beautiful way to spend a weekend but doesn’t it suck that one person out of your group has to be the designated driver? Nobody wants to end a beautiful wine-tasting weekend on a sour note, and we all know not to drink and drive. This is why family-owned company Your Designated Driver is truly ace. Two people come to your destination – and the loveliest part is they’re family members – to pick you and your car up. They drive you to your destination and voila! You’ve managed to experience a fabulous, safe and law-abiding day of wine tasting.

Whirlpool Jet Boating
Niagara isn’t only about wine! Maybe you’ve had your fill of the vino (yeah, right), or maybe you have kids. Whirlpool jet boating is like a theme-park ride, but it’s real! Your kids will sleep for days…or at least 10 hours. The adventure takes you into the churning waters of the Niagara Gorge to experience the famous Whirlpool just down the river from the famous Niagara Falls. It’s no joke – the currents have some crazy power so everyone gets a wild ride.
Welland…
Yes, we know what you’re thinking—Welland, really? Little do you know, this tiny town just 20 minutes from Niagara is full of charm with a bike path right on the water. If you have the cycling chops, you could bike all the way from Burlington, and it’s a beautiful ride on a gorgeous sunny day. To reward yourself, stop at Taris on the Water, a charming new bistro that recently opened its doors. With a stunning patio overlooking the water, Taris offers a delicious menu (think city styles) and has a kickass wine and beer menu. This is honestly the makings of a perfect day of food, wine and exercise. Can’t get much better than that!
