As fried chicken sandwiches take over the Toronto food scene, a new Leslieville spot is taking the craze to a whole new level. The brand, called Daddy’s Chicken, offers a selection of favourites as well as unique spins on popular recipes that are sure to make every mouth water, and every foodies run to the east end. Located at 1276 Queen Street East, the fried chicken spot, which opened in September, promises food that is made hot and fresh. “It’s not fast food – it’s good food,” according to the eatery’s Instagram page, and one look through the menu guarantees that the restaurant makes good on its promise.
The list of choices is piled high with sandwiches, pieces, wings and sides, and includes options like the Sugar Daddy, which is a piece of chicken thigh between two donuts, maple syrup and bacon. Other sandwiches consist of the Big Daddy, crafted with two chicken thighs, cheese sauce, pickled onions, jalapenos, bacon and ranch sauce. They also offer the Hot Hot Sandwich, made with chicken thigh, lime and jalapeno aioli, spicy slaw and deep-fried pickles.

For vegetarians, Daddy’s Chicken offers a plant-based menu option, too, in the form of chicken fingers, and plenty of sides like mac and cheese, spicy coleslaw, garlic parmesan corn, and more. The Hot Sandwich, and other menu items, can be made plant-based or gluten-free.
Daddy’s Chicken is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Regardless of when you visit, be on the lookout for Big Daddy himself, who is often on the premises getting his hands busy with creating the dishes. He’s the guy with the big grey beard!
