A couple of weeks ago I was invited to dine at a Toronto restaurant that I had never heard of: The Indian Rice Factory. I wondered what this place was all about so I went online to do some research. Suddenly I was excited. A truly authentic Indian restaurant opened by a little Indian woman 42 years ago that is now run by her son, and daughter in law. Wow – this is for real. I eat out a lot – and given the nature of my business I get to sample very innovative Chef creations. However it’s very rare that I sit down and enjoy an honest restaurant meal made with tradition, love and care. On this oddly warm March evening, I did.
Aman Patel, the owner, is a very passionate man, which is reflected in the service, food and ambiance of The Indian Rice Factory. He actually joined us for dinner and took us through each delicacy to explain ingredients, taste and texture. It was quite charming and made the meal that much more enjoyable. At the table we were also joined by five lovely food and lifestyle bloggers: Val, @ValTorontoGal (www.ImCharmingYou.com), Aeryn, @AerynLynne (www.GeekwithStyle.com), Steph, @StephinToronto (www.StephinToronto.com), Bev, @DailyBreadBlog (www.DailyBreadEats.com), and Serena @BewilderedBug (www.BewilderedBug.com ).
Check out Aman, myself and the lovely ladies eat the night away. So many dishes were brought out I actually lost count and was unable to capture every single one. However I did get some of the best that will surely make you want to venture over to Dupont Street to see what this hidden gem is all about. You will immediately feel like you walked into the Patel home and not want to leave. Enjoy! 🙂
