Have you ever passed by a restaurant and thought: should I f*cking eat here? Well, we’re going to tell it like it is with a little help from the City of Toronto. Every Monday, we’ll be highlighting a slew of restaurants that failed to pass the city’s food inspection, plus the best first-hand gossip from Toronto’s restaurant scene.
This week, we’re all yellow.
White Squirrel Coffee Shop (1055 Yonge St.)
Ick Factor: 6/10
This is nuts. It’s safe to say that White Squirrel’s Rosedale outpost isn’t experiencing the same success as their OG location on Queen West. We suppose some of the rules got lost and forgotten when they made the expansion, and that’s gonna hurt… it already hurts us to read this.

Sang’s Great Food (343A Spadina Ave.)
Ick Factor: 5/10
With all the tasty restaurants on Spadina Avenue, how does one decide where to dine or get their late night/early morning Chinese fix? Unfortunately for this Chinatown resto, the choice just got a little easier…

Inspection Result: Yellow (conditional pass)
Number of Infractions: 6 (3 significant, 3 minor)
Crucial Infractions: n/a
Slab Burgers (47 Charles St W)
Ick Factor: 5/10
Nothing makes a savoury food sound better than referring to it as a “slab,” right? Guess the inspectors weren’t too charmed either. Watch out for your stomachs, Yorkvillians and UofT students.

Magic Oven (360 Queen St E)
Ick Factor: 5/10
Magic Oven on the wall, which is the best MO location of them all? Apparently, not Queen Street East. Looks like even new branding can’t save this chain from committing some serious-sounding errors.
Inspection Date: April 4, 2016
Inspection Result: Yellow (conditional pass)
Number of Infractions: 7 (4 significant, 3 minor)
Crucial Infractions: n/a
Green Room Coffee Lounge (296 Brunswick Ave.)
Ick Factor: 4/10
These are some dark days for UofT students. First, the beloved (yet grimy) Brunswick House (aka “The Brunny,”) closed down and now it looks like the griminess is rubbing off on nearby cheap eats spot, Green Room. What luck.
