As one A-list album releases, another one begins. Last Sunday, Kanye West graced the public with Donda. Now, Toronto’s favourite rapper Drake’s new album Certified Lover Boy will be be available on streaming services this Friday, September 3! The rapper revealed this information with a simple instagram post. A cryptic album cover that was designed by English artist Damien Hirst.

Drake Week Has Officially Begun
After lengthy delays and months of internet hype, the rapper finally revealed the release date for his first full-length album in three years. On Trippie Redd’s recent track “Betrayal” Drake boasted that “Ye ain’t changin shit for me, it’s set in stone.” Which suggests that Drake is clearing the air, lyrically hinting that CLB’s date was always locked in regardless of Kanye’s moves.

Another hint dropped last Friday in the middle of ESPN’s Sports Center broadcast. There was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of an image of someone holding a sign that read ‘CLB September 3.’ Later ESPN cheekily responded to it as a hack on their Twitter account.

CLB Debuts This Friday
In confirming the date, Drake also revealed the album cover, which features twelve pregnant women emojis. This album cover is nothing like we expected, a little unconventional for Drake. Nonetheless it gives the city another reason to listen to the album to get a better understand of this cryptic message.
The English artist behind this simple yet effective cover, Damien Hirst confirms the cover is indeed a painting he made specifically for the album. As we count the days till CLB, more and more surprises are being released.

Toronto’s very own, Champagne Papi decided to treat unsuspecting Torontonians to some exclusive branded merch. OVO crew members OVO Mark and Drew Ferguson handed out CLB tee’s from a Mercedes G-Wagon convertible at Dundas Square, Square One and Scarborough Town Centre.
There have been considerable rumours and teasers about Certified Lover Boy since its anticipated 2021 release was delayed last January. Now, there’s just one more day until the wait is over. Surely, fans are excited for this, in fact, we’ve waited for a full-length album for now three-years. In Drake we trust because, let’s face, it he never disappoints Toronto.
