June 17, 2023
FreeIn celebration of National Indigenous People’s Day and to raise awareness about Indigenous men experiencing and facing homelessness in Toronto, Na-Me-Res (Native Men’s Residence) is holding its 21st annual traditional Pow Wow. Taking place on Saturday, June 17, from noon to 5 pm at Fort York in Toronto, the Na-Me-Res Pow Wow is open and free for all to attend.
The centrepiece of the City of Toronto’s National Indigenous People’s Day events, the Pow Wow celebrates the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultures across Tkaronto (Toronto) and Canada.
Hosted by Na-Me-Res, the annual Traditional Pow Wow is a vibrant and inclusive event in the heart of Toronto that features traditional dancing, drumming and performances to celebrate the richness of Indigenous traditions. In 2022 the event attracted over 15,000 people.
The Grand Entry ceremony starts at noon, followed by remarks from Na-Me-Res leadership alongside other dignitaries. Drumming, dancing, inter-tribals and honour songs will fill the afternoon, with the flags being retired at 4:45 pm.
