I watched the movie Factory Girl about six months ago and I gotta tell ya, I could not have been more unimpressed. I mean, sure, Sienna Miller’s a beauty with great chops, Hayden What’s-His-Face is alright, and Guy Pierce plays creepy camp like there’s no tomorrow, but man was the movie ever bo-to-the-ring. So when Nicki asked me to head over to Factory Girl gastropub for a wine pairing dinner, I was excited to do so, yet harboured fears that the movie and the restaurant would share more similarities than just their names.
Turns out they do…sort of. Like the film’s lead actress, it’s a beauty of a spot. They’ve got great chops…of meat. But that’s pretty much the only shared characteristics. The lovely Valerie Stachurski (@ValTorontoGal) and I ponied on up to a couple seats at one of the the three 10-seat tables in Factory Girl’s back room, and were greeted by a glass of prosecco with oysters and fried calamari as a little treat to start the meal.
Sitting alongside 30 other jubilant faces, we then noshed on curried scallops with puff pastry and microgreens paired with Konzelmann Gewertztraminer; beef tenderloin lasagna – really, who puts beef tenderloin in lasagna?! – served with a rich yet balanced Delibori Ripasso; Toulouse sausage simmered in red wine with rapini served with Brotte Chateaux de Bord Cotes du Rhone; and finally some dark chocolate served with Konzelmann Barrel-Aged Merlot.

By the end we were stuffed, our pant buttons ready to burst, a little tipsy, and just plain satisfied. For $100, it ain’t a bad night out at all…and even though we were the young’uns in the room, the energy was frenetic and contagious. Check out a recap of the night in the vlog below…
