Time to get FAT in the city, kids! Unfortunately this does not mean we will be scoffing down burgers and beer… far from it actually. We will be schmoozing with the cool, the talented, and the just plain gorgeous as we celebrate the 8th Annual Fashion.Art.Toronto (FAT).
Never heard of it? Here’s a quick blurb from the organizers to fill you in…
“|FAT| Arts & Fashion Week is a platform for inventive, pioneering and contemporary expression. This annual multi-arts event features 200 national and international fashion designers, visual artists, bands and performers each year.”

Glancing over the schedule, we can expect runway shows sandwiched thoughtfully between live music, dance performances, art installations and short films. Featuring a bevy of Canadian talent, the festival serves as a platform for up-and-comers while treating attendees to a vibrant and dynamic spin on the world of fashion and art. The theme this year invites designers and artists to explore how fashion can be used to heal, and is aptly titled ‘Fashion Therapy’, with focus shifting between five sub-themes: drama, craving, escape, crisis and euphoria.
There is so much that [FAT] has to offer this year. Here are just a few things that caught our beady little eyes…
Skindivers Dance Company: ‘Stamm’
Set to an electronic score, this Canadian dance troupe promises to bring us on a journey of freedom and expression as dancers move from uniformed choreography to more expressive movement through solos and duets. Prepare to be inspired.
Worth. By David C. Wigley
Toronto designer Wigley will be entering his fifth season at [FAT] with a collection inspired by the works of Alfred Hitchcock. A murderous frenzy of fashion awaits us.

Natural Instinct Lingerie
Ooh, missus! This cheeky, Canadian label encourages us ladies to ‘let go’ in the bedroom. The producers of the only ‘easy-to-rip’ lingerie will be treating their audience to a dance performance which promises to embody what lingerie can really do for a woman. I’m quite sure it will also fix the old “how can I convince the boyfriend to come to a fashion show with me?” dilemma.
The 5-day fest is being held within the walls of an industrial warehouse in the Bloor West Village neighbourhood. This unconventional location will house 200 designers and artists and over 5,000 guests throughout the event’s duration.
Fashion.Art.Toronto runs from April 23rd through the 27th. Advance tickets can be purchased online. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the venue (213 Sterling Rd) on show days.
