Hello Fellow Single Men,
Want to know why I’m single? When I started writing this post and said “condiments”, I immediately made a joke in my head about mint-flavoured prophylactics. Interestingly, if you are single, your fridge will look vastly different from when you are in a relationship. A relationship fridge always has more in it – things like hummus, marmalade, and mayonnaise. But as single men, the fridge is vastly different! The running joke in sitcoms is that a single man’s fridge contains expired milk, ketchup, and a box of baking soda.
In reality, the single man’s fridge is far more calculated, tactical, and certainly much more specific. Let’s also address the elephant in the room – ketchup. You are not 7 years old. Ketchup is the most over-rated condiment on the market. Considering the amount of sugar in ketchup, it should be called ‘Tomato Treat’. Drop the ketchup, and step your condiment game up! These are five condiments every single man should have in his fridge.

Mustard (Dijon)
First, let’s talk about the most important condiment in a single man’s fridge: mustard. Mustard is a timeless condiment. It is extremely low in sugar and fat, but high in salt, which makes it an ideal condiment for so many applications. A few of the ways you can use mustard include sandwiches, potato salad, meat glazes, in marinades, in a homemade BBQ sauce, and as a vinaigrette. Try adding a quality Dijon to the mix (or add some honey to a yellow mustard and make your own honey mustard).
Soy Sauce
When talking single man’s condiments, it is impossible not to include soy sauce on the list. Soy sauce is versatile — it stands up on its own as a delicious sauce for stir-fry, or just on rice, or it can be used in conjunction with nearly every other condiment to create a delicious marinade. Personally, I’d advise a low-sodium version. You are a single dude and can control your own salt content!
Worcestershire Sauce
Worcestershire has to be the most underrated, uncelebrated condiment that offers so much. I think the major problem is most men don’t know how to use it properly, but it deserves so much praise for what it offers. It can be used in cocktail sauce, in a marinade for meat (or vegetables), to give meatloaf a punch, in a homemade BBQ sauce, in Caesars/Bloody Mary’s, Sloppy Joe’s, with steak, in burgers and the list goes on and on. Do a little research and you will never know how you lived without it.

Sriracha
Every single man needs some sriracha in his place. The spicy mix of garlic, chili peppers, vinegar, sugar, and salt is perfect for use… everywhere. It really has become one of the most useful condiments — delicious on everything from stir-fry to hot dogs or just with crackers and cheese. Add some spice to your life with sriracha.
Maple Syrup
Oh, you didn’t expect this, did you? Maple syrup is in few single men’s fridges, but it should be in all of them. Please note, when I say maple syrup, I mean pure maple syrup — not the imitation table syrup. Maple syrup can add a layer of flavour to nearly everything. Try boiling carrots, drain them, and then add a teaspoon of maple syrup. Or brush it plainly on salmon on the grill. Add a little bit to your coffee in the morning (instead of sugar), and make a delicious maple coffee. Just do yourself a favour and get it!
