Let’s talk about waxing, one of the very first inventions for hair removal. From electrolysis to sugaring to laser hair removal, my personal choice would be waxing! This is partly due to the fact that I am blonde, and lasers do not work on blonde hair.
What to Expect When Waxing
Waxing is the longest-lasting temporary hair removal technique available. When wax is warm, it enters the follicle, allowing the hair to be pulled out from the root. Hair grows back in three to six weeks. The disadvantage to waxing is that it can be painful for those with sensitive skin, and hair must grow back by 1cm before waxing again (this can take up to six weeks).

Finding the proper place to get your waxing done is almost as crucial as finding the proper place for eyelash extensions. Go to places that are highly focused on a certain service. Forget the local nail salon, let your skin experience a different wax service, with a higher-grade quality of wax and experienced estheticians. This goes for whatever you’re having waxed, whether it’s your legs, arms, face, chest, etc.
I highly recommend that if you are interested in Brazilian bikini waxing, no short cuts be allowed. Girl bits are tender, and should be treated with the utmost respect. Brazilian bikini waxing on the bathroom floor, or having a friend wax you in her basement is very risky. Go to a licensed professional that has received additional training in this technique.
You Get What You Pay For
Save big at the grocery store by clipping coupons, but being frugal when it comes to bikini, or any other waxing for that matter, can lead to disaster. From experience, education is what separates the good from the the bad. People that are passionate about their work will become masters of their craft, they will continue their education, and learn everything there is to know about waxing.
First Time Waxer?
Here’s what to expect: First, a special preconditioning lotion for waxing (regular lotions and creams make the wax slip from the hair) is applied. Then, hot wax is poured onto the skin and covered with strips of cloth. Once the wax hardens around each strand of hair, the cloth is quickly pulled off. Your skin should be pulled taut in the opposite direction from the way the strip will be removed. When experienced, your wax technician will have you waxed in no time, and it will be (somewhat) pain free.

FYI
A standard beauty school education is not good enough when it comes to Brazilian wax services. In fact, many schools won’t even train their estheticians to perform it. And don’t forget to ask what type of wax a salon/spa/wax bar uses. My personal favourite three waxes are GIGI Azulene Wax, Satin Smooth, and Moom Organics.
