I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan. Huge. I would be more upset if my boyfriend started watching season four without me than if he cheated on me. For real. So when the folks at LexPR invited me to a Red Wedding themed party at the Berkley Street Church my answer was a very obvious and emphatic, “Yes!” (I almost slipped in a Cher Horowitz, “D’uh!” but it felt just a little excessive.)
The event was to support the HBO Home launch of season three of Game of Thrones and it was beyond excellent.

Upon entering the former church we were given coins not unlike the one that Jaqen gave to Arya when he left her in season two; we provided these to robed psychics who told us which house we belonged to. For me that meant the fiery House Targaryen, because according to the soothsaying ladies I am a passionate and excitable woman; my reaction was basically, “Yay! Dragons.” So I was happy with my house.
After enjoying a glass or two of red we headed down to the main room for the royal buffet dinner. While I’m not a huge fan of buffets (I hate lines) a buffet felt thematically appropriate and the feast of roast beef, smoked lake trout, portobello lasagna, roasted potatoes, and roasted vegetables was exactly what I would have expected at a proper Stark wedding.
Dinner was accompanied by fire dancers, sword fighting and a re-screening of that particularly infamous Red Wedding scene which was, even after almost a full year, no less traumatic than the first time I saw it. There’s something about a pregnant woman being stabbed repeatedly in the belly while her helpless husband watches that just doesn’t get less painful with time.
After the lovely dinner we were treated to a Q&A with Kristian Nairn and Isaac Hempstead Wright, the actors who play Hodor and Bran Stark. My favourite part of the Q&A was learning that Isaac’s mom wasn’t entirely comfortable with him watching the show he stars in when it first aired – not that I blame her since Isaac was only 12 when Game of Thrones first entered our living rooms.

The first three seasons of Game of Thrones were incredible, but from what I understand next season will be even better. In season four we’ll have another wedding in another shade and if we’re all still breathing by mid-season I’ll be utterly shocked.
