In honour of Pride Toronto, we’ve been on a mission to bring you our very own View the Vibe guide to the hottest beauty trends that can make a girl or guy stand out even during the fabulousness that is our city’s Pride Week. Glitter is just one of those things that, while aesthetically pleasing, can go terribly wrong if approached without caution, and we’re not talking about the Mariah Carey movie. Here are a few pointers that will help you rock glitter with a sophisticated edge…
Glitter Liner is Your Friend
As fun as it is to dip your index finger in a glitter pot and apply it liberally to your face, it won’t look so fabulous after you’ve busted out some serious dance moves to Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” and then had a multi-coloured glitter avalanche stream down the side of your face. That’s why glitter eye liner is the bomb. It’s obviously made to be glued close to your eye line, so it’s guaranteed to stay in place when the other Robin (Thicke)’s “Blurred Lines” comes on and you’ve been planning your choreographed dance routine for weeks. The best part about glitter liner is you don’t have to just use it on your eye line. You can add a bit of gold liner in your brows for a more dramatic look. Sephora makes an awesome one that’s on sale for $7 right now, and Urban Decay makes a colourful line as well.
Shimmer is Glitter’s Cool Younger Sister
Glitter is amazing, but like all things overly fabulous, too much of it can actually take away from the overall effect. That’s where a body shimmer comes in handy. You can still sparkle head-to-toe by adding sparkly flakes of awesome to your cleavage, arms and even legs. The Body Shop Sparkler comes in this old school perfume mist that lets you spritz a dose of shimmer all over. It makes you feel like you’re a burlesque dancer backstage at your Vegas show and, right before you’re about to take the stage, you think to yourself, “Perhaps I need just a little more limelight tonight.”

Let Your Lips Do the Sparkling
Save the natural look for another day. Pride is the time to wear your glossiest, most make-out-with-me-and-you’re-definitely-going-to-be-branded-by-my-kiss lip gloss. Wear your favourite shade of lipstick, and top it off with a glitter-infused lip gloss like Sephora Vinyl Lip Gloss, which is available in five different shades. Dior also makes sexy glitter glosses for those willing to spend a little more.
Invest in Your Nails
A cheap coat of glitter nail polish looks like a cheap coat of glitter nail polish. Invest in quality glitter for your nails if you’re going to compete with all the folks who got special Pride Week manicures at the salon. We’re obsessed with Ciaté’s Sequined Manicure Kit, which walks you through how to apply tiny sequins all over your nails. It’s on sale for $14 at Sephora, so jump on it. And paint your toes while you’re at it. It’s Pride Week after all, and we all know that once you dip your toe in, you can’t help but jump right in.
