So word on the net has it that March 20th is National Proposal Day. Some may opt for a more obvious Hallmark holiday to pop the question, but in case you chickened out last month this is your second chance to nail the proposal of a lifetime – no pressure. Well actually there kind of is some pressure as it appears over the past couple of years mega marriage proposals have been springing up all over the internet, much to the delight of eager brides-to-be and the absolute disdain of grooms with little to no imagination. Apparently popping the question has become quite the production with creative boyfriends donning an array of hats (director, actor, dancer, boyband member) to orchestrate immensely grand gestures in the hopes of putting a ring on it. So in honour of this important ‘holiday’ we have gathered some of our favourite and craziest proposals as a reminder that if you’re gonna do it, make it memorable! Oh! And film it… then post it on YouTube for global viewing pleasure. Fingers crossed he/she says yes!
Justin and Emily
Do not start watching this at the office because: 1) it is a long ass video; and, 2) you will find yourself weeping like a pregnant woman at a puppy farm. This epic proposal was sure to take a lot of time, a lot of money and all the right contacts to come to fruition. We got a flash mob, we got boybands, and of course we have the wife to be watching it all come to life. I can only imagine what the wedding was like.

Kimye
Okay, so we wouldn’t expect anything less from the couple who constantly flaunt their celebrity and their money, but renting out the entire AT&T Stadium in San Fran and filling it with all KiKi’s friends and family as well as a 50-piece orchestra… well that is pretty over-the-top even for the King and Queen of self-promotion. And don’t even get me started on that rock… way to set the bar, Yeezy.
Ben and Mel and Angry Birds
Any woman who puts up with an overly-obsessed Angry Birds fanatic deserves a medal. Well this young lady got a nice piece of bling and a proposal featuring the frustratingly annoying game thanks to the actual makers. Mel’s addicted boyfriend contacted the game’s makers, Rovio, on a whim asking for help and to his surprise they agreed. They created a new level which incorporated the proposal which she found after Ben pulled out a tablet and encouraged her to play while they were out at lunch (top points for patience). Of course it was all filmed as a promotional tool and they got a pretty decent proposal story out of it. But God help her if the theme is carried over into the actual wedding…

Dustin and Spencer and Home Depot
Who would’ve though a trip to Home Depot could be so darn romantic? Well definitely not our proposee Dustin who sauntered along to the store to help a friend pick out lights… well that’s what he what told. Little did he know that in the lumber aisle he would find his friends and family acting as the cast of a love-filled flash mob all culminating in a romantic proposal from his clever boyfriend Spencer. And you though home renos were boring…
Issac’s Live Lip-Dub Proposal
There are some cynics that believe this one may not be legit, but I’m not sure why else so many people would go to so much effort; and even if it is a fake, it’s still pretty epic and awakens the romantic in me. Of course Bruno Mars’ “I Think I Wanna Marry You” has become pretty standard in the world of proposals, and in this video it appears our proposer recruited an entire town to make his big question one to remember as they danced along to the tune with perfect timing and choreography.
Note to those who are planning to get down on one knee: ensure you are surrounded by as much family and friends as you can possibly rally… as YouTube has taught us, there’s no way you’re getting anything but a ‘yes’ with such a large audience. Happy Proposing!!
