On September 24th, Sephora Canada hosted the legendary Mario Dedivanovic, celebrity makeup artist and founder of Makeup by Mario, for his first-ever Canadian Master Class in Toronto. Makeup lovers got a front-row seat to learn the signature techniques Mario has perfected throughout his star-studded career—from red carpets to magazine covers. For 90 minutes, he spilled all the tips and tricks while showcasing his must-have products, like the SURREALSKIN Foundation, SOFTSCULPT Transforming Skin Enhancer, and the Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette (with a sneak peek at his latest launch!). After the class, media, and influencers enjoyed a cocktail party, playing with the products, and had a chance to meet Mario himself. Here’s everything we learned from the celebrity makeup artist himself!
1) Primer isn’t needed but moisturized skin is a must
Dedivanovic did not use primer on the model. Instead, he used the Augustinus Bader
The Rich Cream with TFC8 Face Moisturizer to prep her skin before applying makeup. He also raved about makeup artists’ favourite the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré.
2) Do eyebrows and eye base first to prevent overdoing it
He said it’s easy to overapply makeup, and he likes doing the eyebrows and eyeshadow look first.

3) Sculpt the nose and connect it to the inner corner of the eye
Dedivanovic said people often forget to shade the inner corner of the eye but is a nice way of adding dimension to the face. He said when sculpting the nose to connect to the eyeshadow on the inner corner of the eye.
4) Don’t skip eye shadow underneath the eyes
If the makeup look and person’s eye shape allow it don’t skip eyeshadow underneath the eye. Not only does it give the eyeshadow a cohesive look but it helps cover up any creases underneath the eyes.
5) Blot with a sponge after applying cream products
He often uses a sponge when doing someone’s makeup. When layering lots of products he likes using a drugstore sponge to blot away access product.
How to spot conceal
Dedivanovic prefers to conceal a blemish after all his products are applied. Use a more dry concealer he suggested his MAKEUP BY MARIO SurrealSkin Awakening Concealer because it’s self-setting. Dab onto the blemish and leave it on for 30 seconds. Blend if needed and apply some translucent powder on top.

How to do his lip flip technique
During the masterclass, he explained his lip flip technique. He said to slightly overline the cupid’s bow and to slightly overline the bottom of the lip in the middle of the area. Then he said to extend the liner to the corner of the mouth following the inner lip line. After that, he said to diffuse the liner and blend it with a brush from the corners of the mouth inward. Then go ahead and apply your lipstick.
