If there’s one space that defines a Toronto fitness lover, it’s Sweat & Tonic. From the moment they opened their doors, they have become an iconic setting for all lovers of fitness, wellness, movement and community. Their Yonge and Shuter Street location is the perfect place to get a workout (or three) in, grab a smoothie and relax in their coworking space. With the recent announcement of the upcoming opening of their second location at The Well, now is the time to experience Sweat & Tonic for yourself! From yoga, pilates, Hot HIIT, to spin and HIIT training, you’re guaranteed to always have an amazing workout with the ability to switch things up!
If you’ve ever wondered what spending a day at S&T would be like, we’ve got you! I recently spent an entire day there and had the most amazing time. Although I was sore the next day, it felt great to move my body, work at their Tonic House and reset with some relaxation in the sauna and Somadome. If you work from home and are looking for a way to get out, move your body and work in a beautiful facility, Sweat & Tonic may soon become your second home.
Spending a day at Sweat & Tonic
Spin
I started off the day at an 8am spin class with Megan. Now I’ve been to quite a few spin classes in my day but Megan’s class was honestly unmatched. As soon as I walked in music was pumping and the energy was super high. You could tell right off the bat that she had built a safe space for her regulars to let loose, sing along and be comfortable. The class was a versus theme in which she played music by two competing artists and everyone was waving their towels, singing and dancing. I also really liked how it felt like everyone was Megan’s friend and were excited to see her! It made me want to become a regular so I could experience the morning “hellos” and quick catch ups. If you’ve ever seen those TikTok videos of spin classes where everyone is screaming TSwift songs, that was basically the equivalent vibe. It felt like I was at a dance party with all of my best friends rather than a workout that was just meant to get done. The singing and dancing didn’t get in my way of getting a killer workout in by the way – I think I sweat more in the class than in the sauna! Overall, the class was a solid 11/10.

Tonic House
After spinning my worries away, I spent some time working in the Tonic House. The views are beautiful, with tons of natural sunlight and a great vibe. You can feed off of everyone else’s energy and really focus while being surrounded by views of The 6ix. Working from home is nice but if you want to feel like you’re part of a community, Tonic House is the place to be.
Although I have only seen renderings online, it looks like their coworking space at The Well is going to be just as amazing (if not better) with stunning views of the city! If you’re closer to the West End, S&T has something in store for you very soon.
HIIT
No visit to Sweat & Tonic is complete without a trip to their HIIT studio. I’ve been to classes with Nariko, Julian and Baylee in the past but this was my first time with Rachel S and she did not disappoint! The class was very fast-paced with a perfect layout. Sometimes in HIIT classes, teachers get a little caught up with explanations and take too long demonstrating without leaving enough time for a full workout but that’s never the case at S&T.
I really love the vibe in the HIIT room as you truly feel like you have escaped the city and your responsibilities and can just focus on the lights, music and movements. In the booty HIIT class we really focused on the lower body at each of the three stations. I started on the treadmill and then moved to the floor followed by the weight station. The class was a great mix of different exercises and left my legs shaking! High intensity and high vibes.

Somadome
S&T is home to one of the only Somadomes in Toronto! If you’re looking for a way to escape the outer world and dive deep into a meditative practice, a trip to the Somadome certainly wouldn’t hurt. Their relaxation room is fully equipped with weighted blankets. Once you enter the Somadome you simply select your setting and the colour of the dome will shift and sound will play over the headphones to transport you into a meditative state.
Every time I visit the Somadome I promise myself I won’t fall asleep but I always end up so relaxed that I do! If you focus on your breath and the immersive sound and colour experience, you’ll leave the room feeling relaxed and refreshed. I would personally recommend visiting the Somadome at night so you can leave S&T in the dark and hit the sheets as soon as you return home.
The Blend – Yoga/Pilates
I first visited Sweat & Tonic when I discovered their yoga classes. I was a frequent visitor of Rory & Rachael’s classes and have always loved the cozy space created in their yoga room. There’s nothing like entering a heated room and sweating yourself away and really getting into your body. I’m the most comfortable on the mat so I was excited about Elaine’s Blend class in which yoga and pilates were fused together. It’s hard for the yoga to not become outshined by the pilates in a class like this but Elaine truly understands what blending is all about. The class was balanced and stayed connected to the roots of both practices.
After a full day of movement it was nice to finish things off with a low impact class that still targeted some deep core muscles and provided some lengthening movements. I love being able to show up to the studio without lugging a mat around the city and if you know that struggle, you’ll want to add S&T to your list of places to check out because literally everything is provided to you.
The Sauna
If you thought S&T couldn’t get better, just wait! Their facility even has two infrared saunas that you can book to really let yourself relax and restore. After the full day of workouts, I definitely needed the sauna visit! The space is always clean and set up just for you with towels and a quiet vibe.
