Vv’s Magazine’s fashion editor Philip Mak has his top 10 holiday dresses list and he’s quite it twice. Unlike Santa, it is his opinion that it ain’t no matter if you’ve been naughty or nice so long as you look good doing it.
There are a few things that are generally advisable in a holiday dress. First, it should be wearable after the season finishes. There’s nothing worse than taking out a second mortgage on your condo for a dress that you wear only once. Second, it needs to be comfortable and functional. Whether your office party involves going out for cocktails or body-surfing over cubicles, your holiday dress needs to be able to take a beating and still look great – much like your liver. Finally, it needs to look stunning and unique. We can’t think of a more anti-climatic way to start 2015 than being caught wearing the same holiday dress at a New Year’s Eve party.
Holiday dresses also have to be multi-functional. If you’re on a budget, that frock may have to work for Chanukah, Christmas, New Years, office shindigs… the struggle is real. Generally, it’s safe to aim for glitter, metallic, a cocktail hemline, a classic little black dress, and red. That said, white has been a strong trend for fall/winter 2014 and spring/summer 2015 so don’t be afraid to rock the blanc. Sorry, Labour Day.
