Gimp bracelets, Saved By the Bell, Sun In — yep, you guessed right! We’re talking about the 90s. Vv Magazine’s Danielle Jobb and Isabel Chalmers take a closer look at the decade we’re all nostalgic for but perhaps shouldn’t be. Yes, the 90s had Kurt Cobain, but they also had Right Said Fred.
It was the decade that introduced us to Justin Timberlake (and his delicately frosted tips), Kate Winslet promising a young Leonardo DiCaprio that she’d “never let go,” and a time when we had S Club 7 telling us to get turnt up. Yes, we’re talking about the (in)famous 90s. When you think of Will Smith as the Fresh Prince, the Olsen twins as adorable child actresses, and Seal snatching a “kiss from a rose,” it’s hard to not refer to the 90s as the glory days.
As any self-respecting millennial will tell you, the 90s were da bomb. Before we get drunk off romantic nostalgia, let’s not forget that there’s always a yin to a yang. For every Nirvana came a Limp Bizkit, for every Kate Moss came a Anna Nicole Smith, and for every “No Scrubs” came a “Thong Song.” You get what we’re saying? The 90s were a time of extremes — to say the least — which is why we can never get enough when it comes to reminiscing about the days when we were obsessed with Nick Carter (again with frosted tips), played Dream Phone, and saw nothing excessive about having 20 butterfly clips nesting in our hair. We at Vv Magazine want to reminisce with you, so tell us where you stand while taking a stroll down memory lane in our hot or not: 90s edition.
