New York has served up spring’s offerings, and they are pretty, totally wearable and entirely covetable. Here are a few of my favourite trends we can look forward to come the re-emergence of warm weather next year…
Metallics
Ralph Rucci’s shimmering and sequined white floor length dress fluidly glinted down the runway, winking at the metallic trend, while full-on bronze was presented in the form of shiny paillettes on a mini dress. Over at Altuzarra, super shiny silver and gold dresses and separates were draped beautifully, making the trend tangible with the ability to mix in mattes. Sparkly, silver-clad stunners appeared on the Jason Wu runway sporting tank tops, skirts and dresses in sequined silvery elegance, and at Thakoon, silver was also the choice metallic to inject some shine into slacks and a dress or two.
Pleats
Twice-trendy Proenza Schouler’s spring collection featured pleated skirts striped with gold and silver streaks, doubling their lust-appeal. Both sporty and sweet pleats made the cut for Alexander Wang’s collection, which had models baring miles of leg in micro-mini pastel hued pleated numbers as well as simply splendid day dresses with pleated skirts. White above-the-knee pleats with unfinished hems were topped with sheer-paneled, boxy tees at Calvin Klein, looking both romantic and modern at the same time.

One of the Boys
Streetwear and style blog favorite 3.1 Phillip Lim presented yet another covetable collection that had laidback, extremely wearable pieces that were slightly menswear inspired; to-the-knee cuffed shorts, jackets and tees were made special with texture and fabric. The forever ladylike and impossibly chic Victoria Beckham mixed in a few masculine pieces to her collection this season as well: sleeveless, oversized blazers topped Bermuda shorts, and the designer herself even looked the part when taking a bow in loose black slacks and a crisp white shirt.
Black and White
Graphic gowns done strictly in black and white looked elegant and modern at Carolina Herrera, with designs ranging from simplistic blocks to dip-dyed looks to sweeping stripes. Delicate black and white sheers were blocked symmetrically on a diagonal, and bloomed lacy roses on dresses and skirts at Zimmermann, who also presented pieces that dripped black into white and oozed style. Easy to love staples like black slacks looked au currant at BCBG Max Azria when paired with tailored, sophisticated, crisp white tops; separates and gowns alike were also heavy on the no-colour palette.
Crop
Sporty and sexy, Rag & Bone’s spring 2014 collection featured crop tops in bubblegum pink and black leather. Practically the entire Rodarte collection flashed abs – embroidered scorpions slithered across dresses that had a sheer panel around the middle; ruffled, plunging V-neck crop tops were va va voom sexy; and metallic, fringed bra tops exposed miles of middles as well. Similarly, Lacoste presented the crop trend with a sheer-paneled dress, too, and incorporated the trend into a matching skirt and top set in beige with a rust trim.
