Here’s comes the bride. And, increasingly, there’s a food truck right behind her.
To wow their guests with unique and delicious meals, more and more couples are turning to their favourite Toronto food trucks on their special day.

It’s easy to understand why…
– Once the meal is over, the truck just drives aways, leaving very little cleanup on site
– The cost per guest can be as low as $15 (though the food trucks are mainly used for the late night snack portion of the celebration)
– Licensing the site for the event means that the food truck operators can get more creative with their food, as they’re not dealing with difficult city licensing issues.
According to Kristen at Caplansky’s, who is in charge of the restaurant’s catering via their truck, Thunderin’ Thelma, the biggest benefit for the couples who hire them is being able to bring the taste of Toronto to their special day.
“A lot of the weddings are outside of Toronto, but the couple are from the city and they want to bring the Toronto vibe to the country. Usually they’re our regulars and have developed a relationship with us together. They want to bring something they really love to their wedding.”
Kristen says that the couples who hire them are usually in the 30 to 35-year-old range, and that the instances of wedding gigs has exploded this year. They’ve done over a dozen in 2013 so far, compared with only a handful last year.

The kind of food Caplansky’s and other food trucks offer is also perfect for the time of night the guests are served. “We have food that’s great for people that have been drinking!” she said with a laugh.
Hmm… deep fried pickles and smoked meat poutine on wheels? Yes, I’d say a wedding and a food truck is as wonderful a pairing as a beautiful bride and groom.
