Another weekend, another unnecessary (yet totally necessary) amount of food downed by the VTV crew. (Okay, maybe only my weekend was spent in excess.) From the hottest new Thai spot in the city to opulence at the Shangri-La, here’s what we got down to the past few days…

Saturday night was all about excess for me, as I hastily double-booked and had to endure – endure? Maybe indulge works better here – back-to-back dinners. Starting at Sabai Sabai, Dinner No. 1 began at 5:30pm sharp, when this Thai resto’s kitchen was ready for service. Thai mojitos, garlic shrimp, grilled chicken wings, green curry, spring rolls, and crispy fish… Needless to say, Dinner No. 2 had some satisfied shoes to fill…
On to the latter half of my evening, where my sista from anotha mista and I decided to finally check out Jazz Bistro. The place was packed, and the intimate setting they’ve managed to accomplish is a lovely backdrop to a Saturday night. An hour of live jazz and a hefty bill later, we opted to head to Queen West to get down to some gabbing. (We had to keep reminding ourselves that the musicians were there to perform, and not deliberately hindering our attempts at conversation.)

Cafe Crepe has been around for years, and while it may be no culinary gem, you simply can’t go wrong with Nutella and coconut slathered on a paper thin crepe. Apparently the rest of Toronto agrees, as there wasn’t a free seat in the house nearing midnight.
On Sunday – and if you read this column regularly it should come as no surprise – I spent the day in my perma-reserved seat at The Combine‘s bar. I went “healthy” for brunch with a green burrito, but tarnished that good behaviour with Ms. Amy’s awesome Coconut Key Lime Pie…
… after which my arm was twisted (read: I jumped at the chance) to try out their newest dessert, burstin’ blueberry empanadas. Zut alors! These were amazing…

Before hopping into the soiree, the duo dined at BOSK in the Shangri-La. From scallops to halibut with a bouillabaisse to lobster gnocchi, these guys dined in a style that’d make even the most privileged restaurant-goer tres jalouse.
The rest of her weekend eats were at Casa di Laborie. Nicki’s famous in our circle for her amazing spreads, like this all-BBQ’d wonder from Saturday night…
… and this ditty of a Lebanese brunch (no doubt an ode to her P-I-C) on Sunday…

Mr. Finestone had some delectable dishes this weekend, starting the week-to-week break off at the Toronto Wing Festival in support of the Rotary Club of Toronto Skyline. Ten of the city’s best purveyors of wings were on hand to duke it out for top prize, judged by Bob Blumer and a panel of greats. Who won? You’ll have to watch for the recap coming at ya later, but for now, enjoy this nosh-worthy collage…
On Saturday, Jason made way to Seven Lives in Kensington to bask in the boldness of the Gobernador. Tijuana-style tacos in Toronto have never looked (or tasted) this good…

Ms. Tanja didn’t get around too much this past weekend – or left many-a-destination off the radar – but she did indulge in some fanciful fluff from Coco Bakery in Etobicoke. Now this is how a cupcake is made…
