We’re currently sporting rather dour complexions after the liver pickling that was this long weekend. From Pride festivities to Canada Day to patio parties and the like, it’s safe to say we’re in full-on recovery mode. I’ll take a kale salad with a side of extra greens and a green shake… oh and a Coke Zero for aspartamey balance, please! Here’s what put our kidneys in dire straights…

So the weekend that was began, in understandable fashion, with walking the streets of Pride heading towards the 519 Green Space to check out the scene. Post-rain, the walkways within the Green Space were covered in dirt, and there was a wealth of mud presenting some foul footsteps while grabbing beers at the bars. Didn’t stop the boys… twas Pride, after all, and you wear that statement whether rocking a fab sequined top or knee-deep in murky earth.

From there, Boutique and Woody’s were hit up – after an unsuccessful turnaround-trek to the West End – and I got my dancing shoes on with a couple ladies from back home, one of which had only just landed back on Canadian soil after spending a year in London. I consider it a Pride miracle she was in high spirits given the time change and crowded flight home.

Saturday proved one thing: the best way to cure a hangover is by inciting steps to cause – you guessed it – another hangover. A friend’s rooftop patio party was the scene of continued consumption, and luckily it turns out Mother Nature loves the gays and gave us some obstructed sun during the shindig.

The rest of Saturday is a bit of a blur, meeting with a few choice folk to get our drink on over on the Esplanade. I’ll end the day there. After all, what happens at Bier Markt stays at Bier Markt – especially considering the surreality that comes with spending the Saturday of Pride at Bier Markt as opposed to fighting through lines in the Village.
Sunday came and went quickly, forgoing the parade in lieu of a li’l “me” time with shopping… and food. Stopping by some stands as I navigated through crowds, I managed to meander onto Church Street to grab a lobster roll from a quaint li’l vendor.

En route home I was drawn into Sam’s Philly Steak when a chalkboard screamed ‘Tacos’ and I answered the call. Fresh fish, soft shell, bit of crema and I was good to go…

On Monday, dim sum was on the docket after spending the remainder of Sunday over at Augusta House for Business Woman’s Special. A good pal o’ mine and I decided to head up the flights of stairs at 280 Spadina to indulge at Sky Dragon. Greasy noodles were obviously the most important post-libations order…

…and BBQ pork buns were a necessity like none other.

I spent the rest of Canada Day indoors watching crap movies while eating crap pizza with a couple decidedly uncrappy people. Seemed appropriate at the time.

Nicki’s weekend didn’t begin until Saturday, having just spent the week in Van City preparing for the launch of View the Vibe Vancouver. Never one to take a rest, she basically stepped off the plane and into Kensington Market to start grabbing ingredients for her intimate dinner at home with the family.

Naturally, she was going for the gold with seafood galore – most of which was picked up at Shore to Door, the retail component of the new Rock Lobster on Queen. Clearly, some steamed snow crabs with Old Bay Spice were an easy must-buy…

After her night with the Labories – which I’ve been assured actually lasted many an hour into Sunday – she replenished her tired self with some lobster rolls. I feel Shore to Door has a new regular customer in Ms. Nicks…

Cheers to the weekend, folks! Now back to our regularly scheduled programming… aka work. Le sigh…
