Obviously the VTV crew was out on the town this weekend, for many a reason not the least of which was St. Paddy’s Day. (I’ve been informed that it is, in fact, St. Paddy’s Day and not St. Patty’s Day.) We love to paint the town red, but this weekend we went a little green…

I started the weekend at House on Parliament with a close friend. We’d made a pact to have a “quick drink” which, naturally, turned into several. You can’t go to HOP and not order some eats, so we shared their Caesar (because if it’s green, it’s healthy, right?), the calamari, and some of the city’s finest Scotch eggs.
And, of course, I had to have a Black Velvet. But just one… cider gives me heartburn.

On Saturday, I skipped French class because, really, why the hell did I decide to take French lessons at 9am on Saturdays? Cray to the cray. Instead, I moseyed on over for my weekly visit at Combine Eatery where the green burrito was taunting me with its deliciousness.
A few hours and several pints later, I was treated by Ms. Amy and Chef Mario to a taste of their jambalaya. (Fingers crossed it makes it to the new menu.) They lighten it up by using barley instead of rice. Damned fine, I say. Damned fine.
I took it easy Saturday night in preparation of Sunday’s St. Paddy’s festivities. I got an early start with some Guinness at Firkin on Yonge before taking in a bit of the parade and meeting Nicki and her crew over at The Loose Moose… or rather… The Antler Room.
I was home by 6:30pm and passed out by 7pm with a pile of uneaten McDonald’s decaying on my windowsill. Ah… weekends…

Nicki’s Eats | @ViewTheVibe | Instagram: viewthevibe
Nicki took it easy Friday night, but felt good enough Saturday night to visit Museum Tavern with a couple gal pals, one of which took advantage of the resto’s great vegan options. They noshed on diver scallops and some awesome looking salmon sashimi…
And Ms. Annah opted for the tofu and mushroom chop suey. Looks delish…
On Sunday, Nicki and the gang (plus me!) were at The Antler Room. As she puts it, “Unwillingly, we were banished to the basement.” Ah well, you can’t win ’em all. She of course was drinking some wine – which they attempted at one point to turn green but instead went a sort of aqua blue – in lieu of the sacred beer meant to be consumed on such a holy day.
And the ahi tuna sliders graced our table alongside some other nibblies, all washed down with pint after pint…

Jason enjoyed another busy weekend fueled by good beer, good friends and great festivities. He started things off in an exclusive way Saturday morning – post-friend’s BDay bash – at a Korean restaurant opened specially for him and his friend Matt Granite who’s great amigos with the owners. (Hence the special service.) They noshed on grilled galbi (beef short ribs), a fermented tofu dish that takes 48 hours to come to fruition, rice cakes in chili sauce, and odeng (fish cakes in soup). Talk about a hangover cure…

They then wrestled with a covert mission to get their favourite sandwiches from the Black Camel into a Leafs’ game. Some of the best brisket in Toronto – in Jason’s humble opinion – the BC serves up their famous sandwich with caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, a tangy house-made BBQ sauce and a Moroccan-style charamoula mayonnaise.
After some drunken debauchery on Sunday for St. Paddy’s Day – that took Jay and his crew to Bier Markt on Esplanade – he opted for some serious eats at Burrito Bandidos for some fully loaded steaky goodness with lots of hot sauce. Muy caliente!
