Not sure about you, but here at VTV HQ our livers are a li’l worse for the wear after the long weekend. The weeks of liver conditioning and training leading up to the much-needed extended break paid off, though it’ll take til this weekend to regain our sense of norm. Our Instagram profiles are filled with memories some of us have already forgotten…

I started my long weekend early… like super early. (Thanks Nicki!) I spent Thursday (Day 1), catching up on some work and taking time to chill at The Combine, anxiously anticipating the weekend to come. My journeys officially began Friday with my P-I-C and I taking a quick lunch at Mercatto on Bay before heading over to the theatre to catch the latest Star Trek. (Full disclosure: I may not be a Trekkie, but I most certainly am a Piney, as in I’ll be first in line to see anything with Chris Pine.) An arugula and speck salad and Dungeness crab arancini provided the perfect pre-final frontier meal…
After the flick (which I can only describe as “amaze balls,” by the way), we headed over to Ursa for some otherworldy cocktails and silence-inducing dishes. The Foraged Spring Salad was unlike any mix of greens I’ve ever had before, and the Housemade Tofu – with edamame, okara, dashi and enoki mushrooms – was as beautifully plated as it was palatable.

The Georgian Bay Whitefish – with an amazing mix of smoked chickpeas, heirloom nightshades, and wild leeks – put a stop on any dinnertime conversation. I could focus on nothing else other than slowly savouring this incredibly unconventional mashup of flavours…
Afterwards, we marched on over to Chococrepe to indulge in some peanut butter, banana, and chocolate crepes alongside a hazelnut milkshake. I then slowly waddled home.
After a day of shopping on Bloor, Saturday evening saw me over at Rebel House in Rosedale for some Black Velvets (Guinness + Cider) and a super sausage sendup, alongside ancient grains mustard and caramelized onions.
Sunday was marathon day, and I’m not referring to running. Starting around 10:30am and finding my way home a couple hours past the stroke of midnight, not a 30-minute interval went by without a fresh bevvie in-hand. Brunch at The Combine led to more drinks at The Combine leading to a mid-afternoon snack of veggie fritters and refreshing Caesar salad at – wait for it – The Combine.

An early rise on Monday despite finishing the night before on The Pilot’s rooftop meant some war wound recovery was in order. Enter BeerBistro, and their kobe beef tacos. In a city of soft-shell taco treats, it was refreshing to be presented with some hard-shelled vessels. They were the perfect pick-me-up and pre-nap snack…
