Is Aesthetics or Function More Important in Vaping Devices?

When it comes to choosing a vaporiser, there is certainly no lack of choice. E-cigarette, box mods, mini box, mods, vape pens, and even disposable e-cigarettes – the range is seemingly limitless these days!

There are also now a huge number of different brands and models, all with a variety of different features. This highly competitive landscape has seen the development of not only devices loaded with great features, but also some truly stylish designs as brands try to stand out from their competition.

But what is ultimately more important when it comes to a vaping device: function or aesthetics? Let’s weigh up the various options.

The Importance of Function

Of course when it comes down to it, an e-cigarette is a functional device, and you want it to do all the things you need it to do! The specific features you look for in a vape device will depend on your exact requirements, and you may have some features which are preferred but not essential, while other features are “deal-breakers”.

For serious vapers, a major functional concern is often size and power of the device. Typically, larger box mods are able to deliver the highest power and therefore, importantly, generated the biggest vapour cloud. To assess the power of a device you should examine its max output, measured in watts. If you want a powerful vaping kit, you should aim for something with a max output of around 200W, with some box mods boasting up to 220W.

Another measurement you will hear discussed around vape devices is ohms. This refers to the amount of current which passes through the atomizer coil in your vaporiser. Reducing the resistance of the coil means more current passes through it, making it hotter and greatly increasing the amount of vapour produced. Most vaporizers have coils with a resistance between 1.5 ohms and 3 ohms. Some vapers prefer coils below 1 ohms which is called often called “sub-ohm” vaping. Sub-ohm vaping is loved by some because it exponentially increases the amount of vapour and intensifies flavour, but there are some safety concerns with this practice.

Size may also be an important consideration for you: many people look for vape devices which are portable, ergonomic and discreet. There are many sleek vape pens and mini box mods which satisfy these requirements.

Another function which quality box mods and some e-cigarettes include is reliable temperature controls, giving you more control over your vapour output. General usability and reliability is important too: some mods and e-cigarettes can be more complicated to use than others, so easy-to-use devices can be a plus for many people.

There are also mods which come with specific herb atomisers which are an important feature for your vape device if you are planning on vaping marijuana in its herbal form, or flavoured tobaccos. Often the same device will have both the atomiser and an e-liquid tank, which is probably advisable unless you are certain you will only want to use the atomiser.

The Importance of Aesthetics

Of course function is all well and good, but what does the vape device look like? This is something that you carry with you and will be seen with often, so aesthetics are important. Thanks to the range of innovative and trendy designs now available for various types of vape devices – from e-cigarettes and vape pens to box mods and mini box mods – you can certainly make a real fashion statement with your vape device.

Recent years have seen the trend for sleek and stylish vape pens, thanks at least in some degree to the extremely popular Pax JUUL, with their small, slim and minimalist design. Pax JUUL also has a cool function in that it has a battery-powered light which displays the charge level when vaping, and uses nicotine salts rather than e-liquid, which some people say have a smoother taste.

Trendy and aesthetically pleasing vape devices do not only have to be sleek and minimalist. There are also a number of bright, bold and colourful designs available for vape devices. Why Not Both?

Of course, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a choice between a vape device that looks great, and one that has all the features you want. There are a number of great e-cigarettes and box mods which have extensive features while still being stylish and attractive.

There is one aspect which we haven’t covered in the comparisons above, but which may be very important to many people – cost. The costs of vaping equipment can vary wildly, and it is really up to how much you want to pay. Regardless of anything else, it is not a good idea to skimp too much on price: an good quality vape kit will be durable, reliable, comply with government regulations and most importantly be safe.

Having said that, however, there are some great high-quality starter kits available at a reasonable cost which would be more than adequate for a beginner, or even experienced vapour. If you are just starting out, it’s probably a good idea to start off with a basic but quality kit, and then build your kit from there. You can always add more pieces with more advanced features and/or amazing aesthetics later!
