I’ve dated a few professional athletes in my day, likely the result of proximity – being an intern at both TSN and Nike Canada. So short of you applying for a new job, here are a few tips on how to approach, get the attention of, and date an athlete, professional or otherwise…
Don’t Be That Girl
We all know that girl. She is a superfan. She knows all the deets and stats about the guy she’s digging and is interested in hooking up with him for the great story she can tell her girlfriends. Athletes don’t like that girl. They are people too and have probably spent much of their dating life thus far hooking up with people who wanted them because of the cache of their job. So if you find yourself attracted to an athlete and you know all this info, do not share it with him. He’s used to being approached by many ladies, so if you have to pretend you don’t know who he is then do just that. This will ensure your conversation can flow naturally, and you can learn about him, and other things that are of interest to him outside his day job.

Show A Huge Interest In Exercise
Exercise is an athlete’s livelihood, so showing your interest in exercise and healthy living is a major turn-on for athletes. Subtle ways to do that are by checking in to the gym/yoga studio, etc., on your social networks. Sharing pics and stats from your run or workout routine, and sharing images of the healthy eats you’re cooking up in the kitchen. Ready to ask him out? Athletes love a challenge so have them join you on the mat at your local yoga studio.
Showcase Your Personality
He’s likely hooked up with many good looking girls, but if you want him to see you as more than just another “Clamouring Christie” then showcase your personality. Don’t hold back or act in a way you think will impress him. Instead, be cheeky, be confident, be independent, and challenge him if you don’t agree with him. This comes off as a bit hard to get – something they aren’t used to – which will create a sense of allure.
