With dozens of outposts in Korea alone, as well as several more across China, Japan, Southeast Asia and the United States, a famous Korean fast food joint is opening its first Canadian location in Toronto.
Yeondon Ball Katsu offers a new take on the traditional Japanese katsu (which is a breaded cutlet dish served as comfort food), transforming it into a ball that’s similar to a rice ball, crispy on the outside and oozing softness and goodness on the inside.
The fast food chain’s first Canadian location will open in Toronto on November 18, with it’s first location at 209 Dundas St. W. Yeondon Ball Katsu originated in 2021 and currently operates 46 stores across Korea, with the intention of promoting the consumption of Korean pork.

In addition to the katsu balls, Yeondon Ball Katsu also offers ball katsu burgers that seem to be a split version of the ball that is stuffed with different ingredients, as well as a cheese ball version that’s even more comparable to a gooey rice ball stuffed with cheese. Mini versions and sandwich versions, that are just like the traditional katsu sandwiches, are also on the menu.
The Yeondon Ball Katsu concept is a branch of the Korean mega-brand THEBORN, which dates back to the 1990s. The entire conglomerate has over 2,000 stores in Korea alone, and also oversees locations in China, Japan, Southeast Asia and the United States.
Yeondon Ball Katsu joins several Japanese and Korean fast food spots that have opened up across the city of late, including concepts by local entrepreneur Trevor Lui and fast food concepts straight from Asia.
