Dating in Toronto is hard, or impossible depending on who you’re talking to. With more than 2 million people in this city, finding your match can be like searching for that proverbial needle in the haystack. Between work, friends and the million other obligations that pop up on a daily basis do you even have time to go out to yet another bar in hopes of finding the one?
With so many people to sift through and so little time to do it, sometimes you need a little extra help. Enter Shannon Tebb, owner of Shanny in the City, and a full time dating consultant, matchmaker and life coach. Shanny’s services run the gamut from typical dating consulting to the very original personal wing woman package; you can actually hire her to be your real life Barney Stinson, which is pretty fantastic if you ask me.
A couple weeks ago I took a single friend to one of Shanny’s events, Get Tempted, a collaboration between Shanny in the City and City Events that took place on the Cube rooftop patio. What was interesting about the event was that half the people were there to see Shanny and the other half had either heard about the event through City Events or had just showed up to enjoy a beautiful Thursday on a rooftop; so no one there was awkward or uncomfortable and the forced tone of most ‘singles’ events was nowhere to be seen.

These events are part of Shanny’s every day. She doesn’t organize speed dating because she can’t understand why someone would want to have twenty 1-minute dates with strangers when they could have a great time at a cocktail party with other attractive people. I’m inclined to agree with that statement mostly because I find the idea of speed dating horrifying and kind of hilarious; let’s talk for 1 minute and see if we click, if we don’t I’ll just move on to the next dude since there’s so many of them here after all. No, thank you.
I spoke with Shanny for a few minutes and while I’m not in the market for a dating coach, if I was she would be my first call. Shanny lives by a philosophy that if you aren’t right with yourself you shouldn’t be dating. Like that old saying, If you don’t love yourself, no one else will, Shanny lives by that mantra – she knows that if you’re not happy in your own skin you won’t make a great partner for anyone – and that is something worthy of praise.
If you’re looking for a matchmaker in Toronto give Shanny a try. This friendly, bubbly and energetic woman will help you find love in a city full of options and she’ll make you feel good about yourself while she’s at it. The biggest benefit to working with Shanny, though, is that using her services means you’ll never have to see another fake profile, meet someone whose online picture was clearly from University, or hear talk of the friend-zone again.
