At some point you’ve probably come across an Uber car or two. For those who haven’t had the pleasure, Uber is transportation network company run entirely by a handy-dandy app on your phone. Traditionally, if you have a good Uber experience, you can thank your driver on a scale of up to five stars.
But now, you can add an extra gold star to your Uber driver’s record. Uber has released a secret and highly sought after sixth star – and the benefits are more than just something to hang on the fridge.
The initiative began in October of 2014 when American Express and Uber worked together to select two outstanding drivers each week that had been heralded by customers for extraordinary customer service. The lucky winners are then rewarded with an Uber gift package and a $1000 gift card from American Express.
To get a feel for how great people can be, check out the story of first driver to be awarded Uber’s infamous sixth star: Edith from Atlanta. Her client was healing from an amputation surgery and needed a walker to get around. She dropped him off at the supermarket, but he was surprised to see her come in after him with a shopping cart. Not only did she help him get all his groceries and drive him home, she also helped him carry all his bags inside once he’d been dropped off!
