January’s almost coming to an end, and Black History Month is just around the corner. While it originated in the US, it has long since gained recognition here in Canada as well. It was created as a way to pay tribute to and recognize the contributions of African-Americans. There are many events in Toronto alone that are used to spotlight Black excellence during this time, including exhibitions like the upcoming one at Union Station.

The exhibit is titled I Am Still Here: Black Joy is Resistance, sponsored by TD. It is set to be open for viewing from February 6th to May 31st. The featured artists include Gloria C. Swain, Jibola Fagbamiye, Elicser Elliott, Rae Clair, Danyal Barton, Adetona Omokanye and Frantz Brent-Harris.
Visitors will have the chance to see different mediums of work. There will be photographs, digital pieces, AI, and traditional paintings. As the theme suggests, the exhibit’s aim is to shine the light on recollections of Black histories and inspired visions of Black futures.
