The former Ministry of the Interior, at 80 Ossington Ave., is now home to the city’s newest Greek restaurant, Mamakas. Owned by Thanos Tripi (formerly of Uniq Entertainment), Mamakas pays homage to the Aegean cuisine with dishes inspired by the coast of Greece and Turkey.
With chefs Seb Yacoubidian and Pierre Restivo (formerly of Trinity Tavern) ruling Mamakas’ kitchen, you can be sure to expect some fine “Middleterranean” dishes like Imam Baildi (eggplant, tomato confit, caramelized onion, fresh thyme), Larvaki Carpaccio (Mediterranean sea bass, shaved fennel, pomegranate seeds, parsley mint oil, kataifi hairs), and Karpouzi (watermelon, Dodonis feta, fresh mint, pistachio crumbles). Here’s hoping their dishes taste as good as they sound!
