If you haven’t already heard a musical based on one of the most iconic movies of the 2000s is coming to Toronto. If you’re thinking about a movie that follows the life of a homeschooler from Africa and her experience going to an American high school then we have similar taste in movies. That’s right, Tina Fey’s hit broadway musical Mean Girls is coming to the city, this fall. It only feels natural that the musical comes to Toronto considering the movie was originally filmed here.
The musical originally played in 2018 at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre and received great reviews. However, the show stopped production in 2020 because of the pandemic. There’s no doubt that the musical will be fantastic because of the talented team behind the production. The team includes book writer Tina Fey from 30 Rock, composer Jeff Richmond who wrote the music for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, lyricist Nell Benjamin who wrote Legally Blonde The Musical, director Casey Nicholaw who co-directed the Book of Norman, and fellow producer and Torontonian Lorne Michaels from Saturday Night Live.
Get ready to transport yourself into Cady Heron’s experience attending American high school after being homeschooled and living in Africa her whole life. Not only will fans enjoy the music but will get to see Heron’s battle with The Plastics all over again. Heron tries to expose Queen Bee Regina George in order to become the most popular girl in school but learns that they’re always consequences to your actions.
