Michael’s on Simcoe re-opens its doors after a devastating shooting earlier this week…
It’s a sad day when a spectacular restaurant gets put in the middle of a tragic incident like the shooting that occurred on Sunday September 20th at Toronto’s premiere steakhouse, Michael’s on Simcoe. The city of Toronto and fans of the restaurant were shocked to hear that two hooded men entered the restaurant just before 10pm and headed straight for a couple dining in the dining room. Shots were then fired and the hooded men quickly escaped the restaurant. The couple remains alive and nobody else was hurt – but shock certainly has since ensued.
Passionate restaurateur and owner of Michael’s on Simcoe, Michael Dabic, has been rebuilding the restaurant throughout the week and officially re-opened his doors yesterday at 5pm.

“Our primary concern after the recovery of the couple and the safety of our staff was to ensure that Toronto police were able to gather all of the evidence they need to solve this case,” said Dabic on Wednesday, “Now that the onsite investigation is complete and our staff are comfortable returning to work, we feel it is the right time to open our doors to the public.”
And correct he was as last night was a very successful opening service, even generating higher sales than their usual Thursday nights. Dabic tells us he is humbled at how great his patrons support has been with last night’s guests even including actor Paul Sorvino and boxing legend George Chuvalo. They also received several new reservations and expect that moving forward everything will be business as usual.
As Dabic told the National Post earlier this week, “Our patrons are smart, they realize this is a targeted shooting, it’s a one-off. Lightning doesn’t usually strike twice.”
While the incident was definitely shocking, Michael’s on Simcoe remains one of Toronto’s best restaurants and steakhouses with Chef Derek von Raesfeld (formerly of Mistura) at the helm of the kitchen. Recently named a top five steakhouse in Toronto by both Vv Magazine and more recently by Post City, we expect that this unfortunate incident will soon be forgotten and those who know and have experienced Dabic’s passion for creating the perfect restaurant experience will continue to shine through.
