A couple weeks ago, a little birdie whispered in my ear, “Check out the band Sylvan Esso.” I was told they’d be a good fit for a #MusicMonday piece as their music is right up my alley. It’s taken me a couple weeks to actually sit down and listen to Sylvan Esso, but I finally started with the song “Coffee.” I definitely have heard this song before, not knowing who the artist was, so I’m really glad I got led to it again. Upon further research, I found out that the band’s television debut was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Go figure… I watched that show every night and I’m starting to see a trend here…
Sylvan Esso is really new to the music scene, however members Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn were both in musical projects previously. The band is from North Dakota and released their self-titled debut album this past May, and have played some select shows throughout America since. The band’s sound is a strange combination of electronic and folk-pop. Amelia sings while Nick provides the music, and together they’ve created some great songs already. Aside from “Coffee,” I really like “Play it Right” and “Wolf” off of the album, which has had great reviews. Not only that, the band played an energetic set earlier this month at the Horseshoe Tavern which was well received. For a debut album, Sylvan Esso is off to a good start and you can purchase it here on iTunes. For all updates and show announcements, like the band on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
