Vv Magazine’s Helen Siwak fills us in on Vancouver’s best new restaurants, those opening in June 2016 and the buzziest in-the-works hot spots.
Tired of the same old, same old? This month, let us fill you in on where to set your GPS to and drive. Upon arriving at your destination, tantalize your taste buds with new flavours and textures, wash it all down with the best they have on tap, and then dig into something sweet to round out the experience.
Vancouver isn’t all about sushi and steaks. The variety of new openings each month just goes to prove how international we really are and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Here are 9 highly recommended new ventures to check out this month:
Nightingale Restaurant
All the talk of the town right now. Nightingale is Chef David Hawksworth latest offering. A restaurant inspired by Aesop’s Fable of The Hawk & The Nightingale. Renowned for creativity and local ingredients, this new venture celebrates modern Canadian cuisine as only Chef Hawksworth can create it.
Royal Dinette
Already voted the best new restaurant in Vancouver, this truly farm-to-table dining experience wows with flavour and the chef creates fresh pasta daily. Add on a very popular happy hour and the Royal Dinette is a fantastic stop on the way home from your daily grind.
Anh + Chi
Anh and Chi is receiving kudos for reinventing Vietnamese fare in a city that is overwhelmed with late night pho joints. Created and operated by a brother and sister duo with a rich family history of over 40 years of serving up hot traditional food to the hungry masses.

The Tuck Shoppe
Serving up delicious thick sandwiches, crunchy salads, alongside craft beer or cider, The Tuck Shoppe creates a comfortable and nostalgic place to rest your weary bones after hitting the bike lanes. Before you leave, stock up on Red Canoe Jerky or a Throw Back Fruit Roll Up for the ride home. Don’t forget your helmet!
Field & Social
Started by two childhood best friends, Stephen and Moe, Field & Social works with local farmers and some of Vancouver’s best chefs to create the tastiest salads that will ever hit your fork and your belly. Add a home-made soup to the mix and your power lunch just got real.
Nice Vice
Popular from day one. Canada’s first ever 0% dairy creamery opened in Yaletown and their MO is to create unique flavours each day, let them set for 2 days, and then serve them up to the adoring drooling public. Even diehard carnivores have a hard time passing up the avocado fudge in a gluten free waffle cone with a sprinkling of vanilla bean salt.

Latab
Known as a tasty elite snack place with an extensive collection of natural wines, Latab is tucked away in the base of the Wall Centre, kitty corner from St Paul’s Emergency and could be difficult to find except for their little neon sign. Akin to getting lost in Wonderland and finding a sign that says ‘Eat Here’. Be fooled, and follow the rabbit.
Meet On Main
Eating at MOM is as comfortable as reclining in a giant La-Z-Boy and loading up a platter of home cooked vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes of your dreams. Take care to have the foresight to wear your ‘buffet pants’, because as our friends say, you just cannot order just one creamy dreamy dish.
Jam Cafe
Originally from Victoria, BC, Jam Cafe brings a unique take on the all-day breakfast, like this featured dish, called The Three Pigs, made with sausages in pancake batter hovering over fresh fruit. Better than the PNE corndogs on any given day. Don’t try to hog these puppies all to yourself. After you slather on the syrup, make sure to order a few more to keep your tablemates happy.
