At 26 I’m feeling a little too old to spend my New Year’s Eve at a night club. Waiting in line just to pay an arm and a leg to spend an evening dancing to terrible top-40 or barely recognizable digital ‘music’ while drinking a watered down cocktail, is not my idea of fun. Just because you’re not into the club scene doesn’t mean there aren’t options; here are my alternatives for those who feel too old to go clubbing and too young to spend NYE watching Netflix and eating Chinese takeout.
Viamede Resort
Viamede Resort is offering a special New Year’s Eve dinner and brunch package; this year ring in the new year with a 4-course meal that is certain to delight your palate. Chef Matt Cowan creates luxurious meals inspired by the beautiful Stoney Lake resort’s rustic feel and the results are always impressive. I love the idea of cottaging in the winter and New Year’s Eve is no exception.

Blue Mountain New Years Eve Party
Blue Mountain is a Toronto favourite as it’s the closest thing we have to a decent mountain within comfortable driving distance. This makes it the “go to” spot for those who love to snowboard or ski but whose livers couldn’t handle the Whistler lifestyle. This year Blue Mountain is offering three nights accommodation, dinner at the Pottery Restaurant and party tickets all in one convenient package. The menu’s main course selections are so delectable that I’d pay for just the room, the mountain view and the Prosciutto wrapped chicken breast with goat’s cheese & thyme stuffing, green beans amandine and six-grain medley… who needs a party with that kind of menu?
Deerhurst Resort
If you definitely know who you want to kiss at midnight then the Deerhurst Resort’s romantic New Year’s Eve getaway is a perfect choice for you. The menu by Chef David Bakker is stunning with rich options from marinated quail breast to a surf and turf that includes a vanilla butter poached lobster tail. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. After dinner you and your love can canoodle and enjoy an evening of music and cocktails while the clock ticks down to a brand new year.
