Nick Jonas and John Varvatos Have Officially Brought Villa One Tequila to Canada

It’s official, the much anticipated Villa One tequila – brought to us by Musician/Actor Nick Jonas and international designer John Varvatos – is finally available for purchase in Canada. What started as a passion for great tequila, became three expressions of this ultra-premium tequila: Villa One Silver, Reposado and Añejo.

Jonas and Varvatos worked on several projects together prior to starting Villa One. The duo released both a capsule collection and fragrance through Varvatos’ brand, the running theme was that there was always a glass of tequila to celebrate. Being tequila connoisseurs themselves, the Villa One founders took their passion and desire to learn more about premium tequila, and embarked on the journey of creating their own.

The Journey to Villa One

It was on their way to Jalisco, Mexico to meet with Master Distiller, Arturo Fuentes and Stoli Group that Villa One came to be. On that evening in Cabo, Jonas and Varvatos enjoyed great music, great food, and – of course – a glass of tequila. After giving an iconic toast, Jonas and Varvatos went back to their villa, and on the door was a placard that read: Villa One.

“We were thinking about what we should call the brand and what we wanted it to represent. Really it was about that experience that we were having,” said Nick Jonas. “At some point I made a toast and said, ‘to life as it should be’ and that became something that we actually ended up putting on the bottle.”

“Life as it should be” became Villa One’s mantra, and has grown to an integral part of the brand’s ethos. Varvatos said, “We thought it was important at that time. When you think about everything that everybody’s lived through in the last year or so…trying to get back to ‘life as it should be’ [is] even more important today.”

Villa One Tequila

This hand-crafted tequila was made using slow-cooked, 100% blue weber agave. Villa One combines the best characteristics of the two main regional producers of tequila: the Highlands of Jalisco and Tequila Valley. Fuentes, otherwise known as “the godfather of tequila” with over 30 years of experience, created the signature Villa One flavours at the Fabrica de Tequilas Finos using sustainably sourced blue agave, and fresh water from the region.

Villa One Silver features fruit aromas with sweet cooked agave on the nose, flavours of dried fruit and wood toasted nuts with caramelized agave and a long, smooth finish. Perfect for mixing, Villa One Silver can be used to make your favourite Margarita or even a tequila-based Caesar.

The Reposado – Jonas’ favourite – is aged for 6 months in American Oak barrels. This Villa One expression has bronze aromas with caramel and candy on the nose, full and balanced flavours of butterscotch, chocolate, prune and smoke.

The Villa One Añejo is aged for over 12 months in the American Oak barrels and is dark amber in colour. With rich caramel, wood and notes of vanilla wafer, banana and nut. The Añejo has a rich and lasting finish of smoke, dark chocolate and honey. Jonas suggests pairing the Villa One Añejo with coffee and dark chocolate bitters for a delicious aperitif.

You can find Villa One Silver in Ontario at the LCBO for $69.95. The Villa One Añejo ($99.95) is set to be available later this summer. No word yet on when the Reposado will be available for purchase in Ontario, but we hope it will be soon!
