If you are looking for the latest weapon to add to your beauty arsenal, save the trip to the Mink Mile and check out Preen.me. Started in 2012, the Israeli-based webpage already boasts itself as the world’s leading social beauty platform and has the numbers to back it up. Of the currently 1.6 million users, 5,000 are actual make-up artists, with 20,000 looks posted (and growing), and 1.5 million social actions on the website monthly. But those big numbers are only a small part of what makes the site so great.
Originally solely a Facebook page, founder Tamar Yaniv Klorman used the information from the experience to create a truly social approach to online beauty that understands how women interact with their makeup products. The site is broken down into Eyes (Brown/Hazel, Blue, or Green), Lips, Hair, and Nails, where users post their looks. The beauty (excuse the pun) is that attached to their posts, users can add the products they used to achieve the look which you can then click to see who else has used them and use the “Buy” button so you can get them for yourself. There is also a rating system allowing you to see if others would or wouldn’t recommend the look. Another nifty section of the site is the Style page where you can search through curated looks based on categories like “Bridal,” “Night Out” or “All Time Best.”

Perhaps the best part of the site though is the Tutorials page. Segmented into Eyes, Nail, Hair, Video, How To, and Crash Course, the page offers exact instructions or videos on how to do looks, the products you need to do it (with the “Buy” button so you can get them yourself) and what other people thought of the advice. The video tutorials are particularly helpful for those of us who are more visually-inclined and also provide an opportunity to see what people on YouTube thought of it too, adding another layer of to the social beauty experience. For those new to, or who feel shaky on their foundational skills, the How To and Crash Course areas offer easy opportunities for pretty much anybody to become a make-up maven. The site also just launched their own blog so you can keep up-to-date on the latest conversations in the beauty world.
