With Instagram updates inciting rabid cases of outdoorsy #FOMO, we’re all about trying to one-up warm weather revellers. “How we gon’ do dis?” you (didn’t) ask? By going totally retro and having a booze-fuelled picnic in the park. In this new series, we’re giving you some savvy tips for snatching up prime nosh and tipsy tipples in and around our favourite parks in the city. Trinity-Bellwoods, you’re up first…
Your Starter
On the western edge of Trinity-Bellwoods sits one of our favourite restaurants: Oyster Boy. Bringing us seafood-centric east coast-inspired eats long before Rock Lobster ever opened shop, Oyster Boy is a prime locale for almost-unnecessarily delicious delights (their sturgeon ceviche makes us wet… with drool). You can order your oysters pre-shucked and ready to go for pick-up here, ideal to start your al fresco dining experience.

Your Main
A hop, skip, and a jump away from Trinity-Bellwoods you’ll find yourself standing in front of It’s All GRK, one of our fave grab-and-go shops in the city for the fresh flavours of the Mediterranean. Pick up a platter (might we suggest one of Yia Yia’s Big Dinners?), a couple of their now-famous gyros, and a traditional Greek salad for a spread worthy of any gastronome.
Your Dessert
Naturally, Nadege takes the cake (literally) on this one. Seriously, we’ve yet to pop by this patisserie and try something that our friends in France wouldn’t try to pawn off as their own. So. Freaking. Good. Naturally Nadege is a mecca for macarons, but do yourself a favour and pick up an ultra luxe summertime-friendly raspberry tart or pineapple and coconut tatin to share. Either will be the perfect end to your perfect picnic.

To Drink
Obviously the most important element of a picnic in the park is the spiritous sippers that’ll help you while away the lazy, hazy afternoon. Sure, you could snatch up a myriad of saccharine coolers, half-freeze ’em before heading out, and lug around a freezer pack-lined bag en route to your destination. Or, you could simply hop on over to nearby Bellwoods Brewery on Ossington and pick up some prime craft suds to pair with your bivalves, gyros, and sweet treats. What sounds easier…?
