Last night several of Toronto’s most interesting bloggers headed to the Play Lounge at Hotel Le Germain Maple Leaf Square to watch the Leafs take the New York Islanders to task.
I love watching the Leafs play and I love it even more when they win like they did last night; but aside from watching at home my bar options vary between the huge and incredibly busy Loose Moose or a cramped and crowded pub where my vision is almost always obscured by someone taller than me. At the Play Lounge I was able to drink a full bodied red while dining on delicious canapés and not once did I have to stand on my tippy-toes in order to see the game.

Play Lounge elevates the hockey crowd with excellent food, an ample bar selection and smaller crowds. The food, while delicious, is not at all pretentious the chef’s take on classic pub food includes butternut squash pierogies, pulled pork poutine, lobster sliders and crab cakes; for a girl who loves food and hockey the Play Lounge served as a reminder that enjoying a game after work doesn’t always have to mean sub-par bar wings and cheap beer.
During the break between the first and second period of the game several of us were taken on an exclusive tour of the hotel and its rooms which are stunningly gorgeous, incredibly outfitted and bigger than my condo. My favourite thing about the rooms wasn’t the size, or the giant built for two bathtubs or even the rain style shower head it was the robe hanging ready in the bathroom; there is just something about hotel robes, they are the chocolate covered cherry on the top of the hotel stay sundae.
While on the tour we learned about a package available to hotel guests, the Shoot and Score package which starts at $534 and includes a nights stay, tickets for two to a Leaf game, line bypass at Real Sports after the game, a continental breakfast and parking for one vehicle. Considering that I’ve paid more than $500 for just a pair of Leaf tickets on more than one occasion this deal has exceptional value. If there’s a hockey fan in your life that you’ve never been able to find the perfect present for, put the Shoot and Score package on your shopping list this Christmas and as a bonus you won’t even need to leave the comfort of your living room to buy it.
