We all have our favourite dishes that we turn to when we want a comforting meal. For me, one of those items is definitely soup dumplings. It’s the best of both worlds if you ask me, and something that can be enjoyed any day, anytime. If you too can relate, then I’ve got a place in Chinatown that you might want to check out for soup dumplings in Toronto: Qin’s Garden. They’ve recently reintroduced their full menu, after being open in Chinatown for almost three years.
ICYMI: Qin’s Garden’s Wuxi-style soup dumplings are available in Toronto
The restaurant’s roots can be traced back to Wuxi, China, where it first opened 1751. The Toronto location is its first North American one and the first one outside of China. While Qin’s Garden provides plenty of other dishes of Wuxi cuisine, it’s the dumplings that have garnered most attention.
The most popular one among fans is the crab meat & pork steamed soup dumplings. In fact, the recipe itself is a generational one, passed down through four levels to make the dumpling as it is today. These Wuxi dumplings are a bit bigger in size, compared to the Shanghainese version, xiaolongbao.

These soup dumplings in Toronto are made from scratch with each order, starting with the dough, filling and steaming. The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes, after which it is ready and brought to the customer’s table.
The other two available flavours are the pork steamed soup dumplings, and crystal shrimp & pork steamed dumplings. But the menu goes beyond these popular dishes, offering everything from wontons and stir fry to rice/noodles, crab meat dishes, and starters. You can also find desserts on the menu, like sweet rice wine soup, and sweet red bean soup.
