Despite the smoggy September haze looming high above Yonge street on Saturday night, the stars remained in plain sight for TIFF-crazed Torontonians, blazing brightly at the Elgin Theatre for the TIFF 2014 screening and after-party of Pride. The film dials back the clock to Thatcher-era Britain, telling the underdog story of Welsh gay rights activists struggling for social equality in 1980s UK.
Missing among the star-studded A-listers on Saturday night was local Toronto mayor-turned-village-buffoon Rob Ford. However his absence at any kind of event that includes the word “pride”, no matter how globally or socially significant, is not exactly surprising (he claims he’s just not a “parade” kind of guy). Then again, maybe he really did want to attend, but just couldn’t quite find the doorknob to leave his own house – they can be tricky!
Not surprisingly, however, his absence was not missed in the slightest as TIFF’s best and brightest were out in full form on Saturday night to kick off the after-party for Pride. Take a peek at just some of the action below.
