The Twitterverse has been abuzz over the past 24 hours with compliments and congratulations after Rock Lobster Food Co. announced that a new location of the pop-up turned Ossington restaurant would now be making major waves over on Queen West. Replacing the longstanding Shanghai Cowgirl at 538 Queen Street West, owner Matt Dean Pettit told The Grid, “It’s going to be open seven days a week. We’ll do lunch, dinner, and late nights till around 3am on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.”
With more space and new menu items (don’t worry, the lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, and lobster poutine aren’t going anywhere), Rock Lobster will focus on diversifying their in-house delights. A retail counter, pre-made sauces and soups, as well as a mini-fish-market manned by genuine fishmongers are what Queen Westers can expect; though we’ve got a feeling a large selection of the Toronto crowd will be making the frequent pilgrimage over to the new RL Co. digs.
After 13 years, Shanghai Cowgirl will be closing up shop for good next week and the partners of Rock Lobster, including soon-to-be-ex-owner of Shanghai Cowgirl, Darryl Fine, are hoping to flip renovations within about a month. Stay connected through Twitter and Facebook for more firm dates, but expect 75 redesigned seats inside and a sunny 80-person patio come summertime!
