Last weekend I headed to Osheaga for sunshine, bands, and more than a little too much alcohol. There were a lot of great moments for me, but my absolute favourite was hanging out with Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis while Jack White rocked the crowd of over 30,000 people; it’s the kind of moment that should really have been in a movie and will definitely end up in my memoirs one day.
Aside from meeting the stunningly gorgeous Olivia Wilde and her hilarious hubby, it was the fashion at Osheaga that was the most interesting part of the festival. I saw more flower crowns and body paint than I’ve seen in my entire life – or at least since I was 6 and pretending to be a flower princess from another planet. But one expects to see a lot of that at a festival. What I didn’t expect to see was the resurgence of 90s fashion; Osheaga 2014 was a virtual homage to the styles of Kurt Cobain groupies and Courtney Love wannabes.

I love a crop top as much as the next 90s gal, but the modern crop is more about high fashion and less about showing as much skin as possible. Well, not so at Osheaga, and to be honest a lot of the people rocking those crop tops looked totally uncomfortable. A cute pair of denim shorts is a great look that works for every summer activity, but when the shorts get so short that they could easily be confused for a denim thong then you’ve gone too far. One blogger, who I’ll let go unnamed, was rocking a purse made entirely out of fake hair; if Cousin It was a purse this would be it.
There were some amazing fashions though, like white lace dresses paired with chucks for the perfect blend of bohemian and urban fashions. There were some gorgeous split maxi skirts and dresses, which feel to me like this year’s answer to the hi-low skirt that was so popular in the summer of 2013. But as always the number one fashion item at the festival was Ray-Ban’s famous aviators, because no matter what you’re wearing they always make you look just a little bit cooler.
While the fashions were amazing – to laugh at and enjoy – it was the music that we went for and we weren’t disappointed. Outkast put on a hell of a show and it was probably the last time I’ll ever see him; Lorde is exactly as wonderful and weird as she looks; Childish Gambino puts on one hell of a show, so good in fact that I don’t think Community will ever get him back (that is if we get Community back). My favourite night, though, was Saturday because Jack White is an incredible musician and this was my first time seeing him and probably the only time I’ll ever see him while standing next to people so stunning that they are paid to be gorgeous.
