Canada’s Top Influencers Make Headlines this Week
Juice Factor 8/10
On Friday, The Globe and Mail published an article that calls into question whether or not Canada’s Influencer industry is sustainable. The writer names a few of Toronto’s most elite influencers, those who have been able to garner success quickly by adapting early including the uber fashionable Jay Strut (whose picture graces the front cover of the story), adidas ambassador Gracie Carroll, mommy blogger Erica Ehm and Canada’s hottest blogger couple, Alexander Liang and Justine Iaboni, and dissects their contribution to the growing influencer industry. The article claims that influencer marketing isn’t effective for some brands, especially smaller Canadian designers who don’t have the marketing dollars to back some of the high prices these influencers demand. We spoke to one industry leader, who will remain unnamed, and they told us that the article doesn’t expand on successful influencer campaigns like those done by established brands such as PayPal, Maybelline, and Joe Fresh, and perhaps looking at the success stories would have painted a less biased picture. It is interesting that a traditional media outlet would publish an article that states, “traditional media packs more punch.” Shameless self-promo? Hey, we can’t knock their hustle! Nonetheless, the influencers and bloggers in Canada are always subject of criticism and scrutiny. But such is the life of those in the spotlight. Online and offline feuds ensued once this article went live, causing more drama than needed, but we’ll take it.
Bachelorette Cuts Chase in Fantasy Suite
Juice Factor 6/10
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the fantasy suites! In Monday night’s episode, JoJo spends one on one dates with her remaining men, who try their hardest to get invited back to the fantasy suite. Basically, the fantasy suite is the place where no camera can go. The couple spends the night in the fantasy suite falling in love, making out or in the case of Monday night’s episode, breaking up? Chase spills his heart to JoJo telling her how he feels and she rejects him. Why? Well, her other guy, Robby, snuck into her hotel room earlier that day to declare his love for her, breaking all bro code ever but hey, it is television gold! Chase freaks out at JoJo for even letting him get as far as the fantasy suite only to be rejected but then during the rose ceremony, he apologizes to her for getting angry. He tells JoJo: “I’m proud of you, I’m impressed by you. I admire you… and most of all I want you to know I’m not mad at you.” That’s great because JoJo picks Robby and Jordan as her final two. Goodbye, Chase.

Canadian Writer Inundated With Hate Mail
Juice Factor: 9/10
Beloved Canadian Writer, Sabrina Maddeaux, updated her status on Facebook to say: “This week in fan mail: I’ve been called trash, a racist misandrist, an old skanky whore, a communist, hysterical, and a hater of white men. My articles seem to be hitting some sore spots and I’m not at all sorry about it”. The Canadian writer is known for always speaking the truth – no matter how ugly. Her articles have appeared in some of the country’s biggest publications. She has always worked hard to call attention to issues and problems. If you’re hiding something, chances are Sabrina Maddeaux will find you, and tell the world your sins. We think she’s a true gem in Canadian publishing but obviously, there are people out there who feel threatened by her willingness to tell the hard truths.
So Ashton Kutcher’s Man Parts Look Like a Can of Guinness Beer?
Juice Factor 8/10
On Monday night’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, guest Mila Kunis was invited to play the latest game of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts. In this game, celebrities are asked to either answer a very personal question (spill your guts) or ingest something extremely gross (fill your guts). Corden asked Kunis about her husband, Ashton Kutcher, and his private parts. Is he more like a carrot stick or a beer can? If she didn’t answer, the pregnant mother of one would have to eat… clam juice! How awful. She obviously answered. She said carrot stick but then retracted. Perhaps he is more like a long, thick can of Guinness. Way to save the day. Guess you can have it all.

Blind Item: Retail Woes
Juice Factor 9/10
It’s another sad day in retail as we hear about budget cutbacks from a secret source. Apparently, one retailer in Canada is letting go of staff and cutting back their budgets, causing lots of people to talk about their success in the market. It’s not the first time that Canada’s retail market has seen drastic changes and low points. We remember Target, Aeropostale, Sears, and a slew of small brick and mortars that bit the dust in this uncertain economic landscape. The latest news may just be a change in strategy – or it could mean the end of yet another shopping destination north of the border.
Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna, Break up?
Juice Factor 9/10
After deleting all his Instagram photos and unfollowing her, it seems that Rob Kardashian has finally ended things with his fiance and baby mama, Blac Chyna. According to People Magazine, a source has come forward to reveal what exactly is going on in this tumultuous relationship. “They filmed over the weekend and had an argument. Rob tends to blow up and react very fast. They have rushed their relationship so much,” the source spills. So, is it just a ploy to get more viewers excited about their new reality TV show or is it for realsies? If we know anything about the Kardashians and momager Kris, if there is money to be made by breaking up, you break up. If there is more money to be made by staying together, you stay together. And if there is the most money to be made by faking a break-up and then getting back together – well, we have headlines like this one.
