Gwen Stefani responds to split from Gavin Rossdale
Juice factor: 8/10
There are two things for certain about Gwen Stefani’s character: 1) She’s an unwaveringly cool class act, and 2) She ain’t no hollaback girl. Instead of divulging all about her upcoming divorce from the Bush frontman who allegedly cheated on the Queen of Ska, she’s kept her lips tight while appearing on the latest season of The Voice, and responded somewhat cryptically and 100% artistically yesterday by releasing her new music video for “Used To Love You.” It’s a definite much-watch if you care to nurse a broken heart of your own with a sense of grace. Note that she isn’t wearing rings on her wedding finger…

Blind item: The return of Ritalin on the media scene?
Juice factor: 9/10
At a recent pre-party meeting attended by the the PR team and owners of the establishment where the highly-publicized event was taking place, conversation turned immediately to the energy-sucking demands and inconquerable fatigue that seem to sweep over the media scene like a perrennial plague. The owner of the establishment mentioned Ritalin to be his stand-by recharger, and curious attendees put their hands out to try his preferred pick-me-up-one asking for “a few more for later–busy week” totally shamelessly.
Blind item: Toronto media baby boom in full effect
Juice factor: 9/10
After the announcements from a few high-profile social scenesters about their upcoming due dates, a certain single-in-the-city media darling has started seeking legal advice on how she too can join the pack of pregnant ladies without bankrupting herself on her publishing industry salary, or even having a traditional father figure involved in the picture.
The Hollywood weight loss renaissance
Juice factor: 8/10
Oprah might already be raking it in with her new investment in Weight Watchers, and we all know Beyonce makes mad bucks over her weight loss packages, but American Idol winner and country star Carrie Underwood opened up recently about the dark side of dieting in Hollywood. “I was taking things with ephedra in it,” she said in a recent interview. “It wasn’t the best way…. I knew that I weighed more than I had ever weighed before,” she said, “But then as soon as you start making little tweaks, people immediately go, ‘You look so great!’ Then you start wondering, ‘How bad did I look before?’ Then it’s like, ‘Well, I guess I should keep on going.’ Then you start eating less.” Weirdly enough, ephedra is illegal is the USA but bumpin’ off the shelves in Canada.
West Queen West not so cool after all?
Juice factor: 8/10
Despite Vogue’s stamp of approval, or perhaps because of it, West Queen West ain’t what it used to be. If you live in or frequent the area, you may notice a significantly large drop in the number of local celebs you see out grabbing their artisanal espressos and walking their purebred pups at Trinity Bellwoods. Whether they’re moving north as close as Dundas or west as far as the Junction, the exodus has begun.

The Toronto open relationship trend
Juice factor: 10/10
Open relationships are the new common law divorce in Toronto. Why divy up all your nice things and hire expensive referees with law degrees when you can just have sex with other people, right? Problem is, this one high-profile couple just figured out why this might not be the best idea the hard way. Herpes.
Canada gets it’s own two-step
Juice factor: 7/10
Just in time to celebrate the new era of Canadian cool, aka the end of Stephen Harper and the beginning of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s rein as Canada’s new Prime Minister, hometown boy Drake dropped a new video for “Hotline Bling.” We’re not saying he’s got Chris Brown talent on his toes or anything, but his moves are about as infectious as Robyn’s in “Call Your Girlfriend.” We predict flash mobs on Canadian dance floors at a Halloween party near you…
