Scrubs in the City, always one of the hottest events of the spring charity event season, returns tomorrow night (June 6) – this time, with a Mexican flare. Scrubs in the City: Mexico City will transform the sprawling Evergreen Brick Works into a vibrant and colourful escape to the oldest capital city in the Americas, in a fiesta filled with culinary delights, music, and memorable activations. The event always unites Toronto’s society page staples for a feel-good celebration that turns every corner of the venue into a place of intrigue and discovery. Best of all, it’s all in support of SickKids. In short, you won’t want to miss it.
With a committee that includes Toronto’s mainstay bold-faced names like Sylvia Mantella (who is on our 2024 Power 60 List), Suzanne Rogers, Lily Li, and Candice Sinclair (just to name a few), it’s a given that zero corners were cut in what is likely a highly detailed event-planning process. To ensure the essence of Mexico City life was authentically captured through the event, the committee turned to the guidance and insight of Ballet Folklorico Puro Mexico and Rosie Krcmar.
As they make their way through the immersive and interactive space, guests can expect gourmet dishes featuring iconic Mexican flavours, open bars with flowing Mexican-inspired cocktails, Instagram-worthy photo ops, interactive installations, and high-energy fiesta entertainment that will inevitably inspire a dance party.

Presenting sponsor Holt Renfrew sets the stage for a fashionable affair where the brighter, bolder, and over-the-top looks will inspire both compliments and conversation. For those in need of some outfit inspiration, the team at Holt Renfrew suggests everything from “flowing, fabulous silks, to striking, contrasting patterns and textures, to pops of vibrant colour.”

Funds from the evening are directed to fund state-of-the-art neurosurgery and neurodiagnostic lab equipment to help heal the future. This equipment will help treat tumours, strokes, and epilepsy in children. In its 22-year history, Scrubs in the City has raised an impressive $9.8 million for SickKids and its top-of-the-line technology and research.

All promo draw ticket sales will be generously matched by Peter Gilgan.
The event also features an impressive and jam-packed online silent auction (which will close at 1 pm on June 7), where people can bid online for things like tickets to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour or sporting events, a private event by Toronto premier event planners Bassett Events, designer handbags, gift cards to everything from restaurants to med spas, family portrait sessions, jewellery, fine art, and so much more (you could literally spend hours browsing the options…you may want to get a head start now). At the time of publish, this online auction had raised nearly $60K.
Recent years have seen Nashville, Mykonos, and Rome themes for Scrubs in the City. But don’t let the theme (and the fact that it’s sort of the 11th hour) dissuade you; not everyone dresses the theme – or even reflects it in subtle nods – and that’s ok. Anyone who’s attended a Scrubs in the City event knows that it never fails to disappoint – and makes for a late Friday morning start.
