F*ck Christmas! Mid-August is the most wonderful time of the year. As the fashion world gears up for fall, that means September issues! The annual celebration of all things clothing and beauty, the biggest and best mags around get the most recognizable faces of our era onto their covers for a fabulous fete of fashionista proportions. The trendy tomes collect everything from the best of the catwalks at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, back in January, to setting the forecast for what will be worn this autumn and into next year. The lucky girl who is hand-picked by Anna Wintour to grace the cover of Vogue, in particular, is pretty much crowned the official “It-Girl” of the moment, which can have a huge impact for her career and pop culture in general. Here is our guide to this year’s crop of covers.
Vogue – Jennifer Lawrence
The leader of the pack in terms of September mags, Vogue is always the tastemaker of the season. After a whirlwind couple years of Hunger Games, X-Men: First Class, and an Oscar, J.Law has been crowned It-Girl 2013 by Vogue on their 902-page September issue cover. In a country-themed shoot by Mario Testino featuring plenty of man’s best friend and plenty of plaid, the sometimes superhero reveals in the interview that she always knew she’d be famous and, quite frankly, so did we. From the moment we were introduced to her, we knew this one would go far.

Vanity Fair – Princess Diana
Following the royal birth and with a biopic starring Naomi Watts out this fall, it seemed perfectly timed and on point for Princess Diana to be on the cover of Vanity Fair’s September issue. Even 16 years later, it seems her class, grace and beauty only get better and more relevant with time.
Elle – Kate Upton
One of the definite “It-Girls” of the year, Kate Upton is bringing beauty and womanly curves to the Elle September issue in a red, body-hugging Lanvin number. Decked out with chunky gold accessories, Ms. Upton looks stunning and, may we say, very classy. “HELLO SEXY,” indeed.

Marie Claire – Zooey Deschanel
Love her or hate her, Zooey Deschanel is here to stay it seems. The sort-of-indie adorable brunette is positioned a little awkwardly in her shot by Tesh for Marie Claire but who can look away from those baby blue eyes?
Harper’s Bazaar (US) – Sarah Jessica Parker
Glowing in a gold, Marc Jacobs sequined dress, SJP is shot by Terry Richardson for Harper’s Bazaar. In true Richardson fashion, her hair and arm positioning is giving us all sorts of sexy in the city.
