Sex & The 6ix is our new weekly Sunday dating column in collaboration with a dating expert and matchmaker. Every week watch two people get to know each other and predict if the relationship will bloom or if it looks like an epic fail. We send two people out to a hot spot to enjoy dinner on us and see if we can make a love connection!

Now onto this week’s date…. Meet Shanny’s match:
Shanny tells us why she matched these two up:
Blind dates can be a little discouraging, as you really don’t know what to expect going into it. That being said, I think this can add a little more excitement pre-date and keep you on your toes. After contacting Brittany and Ken letting them know that they had been “matched up” for a Sex & the 6ix blind date, they were pumped and so was I. The dinner on us at Fonda Lola was also a nice incentive to say yes to the date. 🙂
After reviewing their applications, I had a gut instinct that these two would converse well together. There wouldn’t be any awkward silent moments during the date or a planned exit strategy, thank god. Although Ken can be a bit shy at first, I felt Brittany’s bubbly confident personality would help break him out of his shell. Also, their careers in Graphic Design and Automotive Sales, overlap in creativity and selling something that is visually appealing which match. Personality wise, they both seem to be unpretentious, down to earth and chill so I’m sure the date will be a hit.

The age gap between the two is minimal which I felt worked to their advantage. A match closer in age can be more successful for a long-term relationship and this was what they both are looking for. They also share common interests like dining out at the latest hotspot, travelling, and outdoorsy stuff.
Visually, I felt these two would have chemistry as Brittany mentioned that she is a fan of the hipster look. Although Ken isn’t your typical hipster, lets be honest, he has a great beard. She’s a cute petite blond and Ken is a dark haired Italian stallion (when he wants to be), so let’s see what happened during their Mexican fiesta at Fonda Lola on Queen West.
Here’s what Ernesto, owner of Fonda Lola, had to say about their date:
“As far as I could see it looked like they were not really connecting or getting close but they seemed to have a lot of fun.”
After interviewing both Brittany and Ken, Shannon’s expert opinion is…
I’m happy to report that the date was a success and date #2 may be just around the corner! They both appreciated each other’s down to earth personality and even found out that they both have a love for Mexican food. Looks like we picked the perfect restaurant! It’s also a great sign that their friends would have approved the match. There was no uncomfortable conversation during the over 2-hour date and it flowed extremely well. Both shared common interests and overall relationship expectations.

I think the next step for these two, is to give date #2 a shot and see if there’s a romantic connection. First dates can be a bit reserved, so it’s important to meet again if you have connected on other levels. The good-bye hug is a positive sign and can help build momentum for the second date kiss. Let’s hope these two continue the dating process and see what the future has in store.
We’ll be keeping in touch with them to see where the connection goes… stay tuned for a follow up post in a couple of months!
