Now on to this week’s date…. Meet Shanny’s match:
This week I paired up Matthew and Denise, two recent blind date applicants who got to enjoy dinner on us at Queen West restaurant The Good Son. Although these two might seem to be opposites, I wanted to take a chance and match them as you never really know what can happen when two people are face to face.
Matthew is a creative type and works as an Account Manager at a tech company. He’s tall, athletic and has an acting background. Denise resembles Kim Kardashian and is attracted to the clean-cut boy-next-door look. She works as an Associate Director and can handle having a lot on her plate—including squeezing in this last minute blind date. She’s a gorgeous brunette with lots of sex appeal, which Matthew likes in a woman.
Matthew still has a baby face at 35 and is looking for something casual for now, but this could change if he finds the right match. Denise mentioned that she loves to travel and Matthew is the outdoorsy type, so I’m picturing a possible weekend getaway in their future.
Both daters in their 30s, have been single for less than 2 years, and are willing to take a chance on love. Let’s see if Matthew can step up to the plate and impress this dark-haired diva.

After interviewing both Denise and Matthew, Shannon’s expert opinion is…
This is a perfect example of what I like to call Self-Sabotage Behavior—the dater already blew it before he/she even had the opportunity to get to know their date. Apparently, our male dater showed up to the date intoxicated. Maybe he required a little liquid courage and was nervous for the blind date? Who really knows. The bottom line is that you should never show up tipsy to a date.

Denise mentioned the date was “entertaining” to say the least and she enjoyed his sense of humor. Matthew was definitely impressed with the match but unfortunately won’t be getting a second date with Denise.
Denise was a champ and stuck out the 3-hour date—she admitted they shared good conversation and enjoyed their meal, but the chemistry just didn’t seem to be there. I think Matthew had good intentions going into the date, but having too much alcohol put a damper on things early on. It’s so important to take the dating experience seriously as the other person has invested their time in meeting you. Practicing essential first date etiquette means not only being chivalrous but also being mindful of your behavior, composure and how you present yourself. Let’s hope this Blind Date experience can be a lesson to those who may need “a drink or two” before a date. Although this week wasn’t a match, I appreciate our daters who participated in this week’s Sex & the 6ix blind date.
