Sex & The 6ix is our new weekly Sunday dating column in collaboration with a dating expert and matchmaker. Every week, watch two people get to know each other and predict if the relationship will bloom or if it looks like an epic fail. We send two people out to a hot spot to enjoy dinner on us and see if we can make a love connection!

Shannon Tebb, entrepreneur and creator of Shanny in the City, has worked as a Matchmaker and Dating Consultant since 2010. She has been featured on various radio shows, and offered her expert opinion for articles in the Huffington Post, The Star, Metro, Eligible TV, Oh So Cosmo, KISS 92.5, CBC Radio, and was the spokesperson for Zoosk.com.

Now on to this week’s date…. Meet Shanny’s match:

This week’s Sex & the 6ix daters were excited to meet each other for their blind date experience at East Thirty-Six. Maik, a General Manager of a large company, is looking for marriage and kids with the right woman. Maik, being German, likes to get straight to the point. At 40 years old, he knows what he wants—he mentions that he is attracted to a finance-oriented woman who is a gym bunny. A Jennifer Lopez-type with a great sense of humour is a bonus.

Mariangela is 35 years old, works in International Sales, and is fit, gorgeous and the gym buff type. She is attracted to an ideas guy with an entrepreneurial streak. Maik isn’t an entrepreneur, but he is the boss of a large company and can handle similar pressures. Mariangela mentions that a guy who parties too much can be a bit of a turnoff. Maik is the opposite of a partier; he likes to socialize in more intimate settings and enjoys the outdoors.

Both Blind Daters have been single for less then a year and are looking for a quality partner that is educated and successful. Maik and Mariangela are both dominant figures in their careers and take pride in their health and overall appearance. Let’s see if the sparks will fly and the conversation will flow while they enjoy dinner and drinks on us at East Thirty-Six.

Here’s what the server observed about their date:

“Went pretty well for them. They shared a couple drinks and apps, then left together.”

After interviewing both Maik and Maringela, Shannon’s expert opinion is…

After receiving the Blind Date feedback from our daters, it was clear that one side was more pleased with the date then the other. Maik felt instant chemistry after meeting Mariangela and was impressed with the match. He did struggle a bit throughout the date to make adequate conversation and lure her in. Asking your date “how do you like the date so far” may be a bit of a turn off and can be uncomfortable to answer; it also indicates a bit of insecurity and self-doubt early on. Perhaps if he had been more focused on learning about Mariangela rather then the flow of the date he would have been more successful. It’s clear that his nervousness and awkward moments of silence also made it hard for her to connect with him. While on a date, its important to filter out the negative thoughts and keep them to yourself. After the 2 hour-long date, Maik was a gentleman and walked her to her car, giving her a hug and kiss goodbye. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough for Mariangela to consider a second date with him.

This blind date experience is a great example of how Dating Consulting sessions can help prevent potentially awkward moments from occurring while on a date.
